It seems that I'm being sent up to the land of Doherty for a week to
attend Microsoft Tech Ed (of course I'm taking an extra couple of days
so that I can socialise with my people a little bit.)

Anyway, I'm basically looking to cadge a place to stay from someone
who lives around Armidale on Saturday night. That's ARMIDALE on
    SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST.[1]

I'll be staying with Clem & family for the duration, and I believe
there's a Mt Glorious ride involved towards the end of the week. :-D

The interesting "tax dollars" part is that although I'm riding up and
therefore saving my Department[2] about $500 in airfare and $200 in
Cabcharge vouchers, the tight bastards won't give me any Motor Vehicle
Allowance. Well, they probably would if I hired a DASFLEET Falcadore
and towed a trailer with my bike on it, but that's not gonna happen...

    [2] And thus the taxpayer.

Make them pay for the airfare anyway, don't use it and ride up anyway.
That'll show them for being unflexible !

Mebbe Ecka day (Wed 13th) if any of you other Briswegians are interested!

I could probably be talked into a curry or a steak on Tuesday night too if
    anyone's up for it.
    Cheers ..... Clem

  7. Count me in for the ride, but Deb's working. Dinner shouldn't be a problem.

Did you see on the news tonight where a warehouse full of Jim Bean
went up in flames in the US? 2% of their stock.

  12. I just wacked it on the laptop, peice of piss. Last time I tried
(v7.0) had heaps of troubles getting it to work. Now I just gotta find
    a winmodem workaround!

Isn't it a wonderful irony that the supposed purpose of my trip is to
    attend *Microsoft* Tech Ed? :-D

Check carefully when you buy *any* modem; I have a PC Card Winmodem that
doesn't work in Linux OR Windows!

  16. I'm on to that one, thanks Doug, tho' it's not looking too good for
the Prosignia. May be time to purchase another card modem and be more
paranoid about using it in thunderstorms this time!

An update: I went and bought comprehensive insurance for The Jackal,
and now I qualify for Motor Vehicle Allowance. At $165 for 12 months
it's the cheapest comprehensive I'll every buy, and I can cancel it
for a full refund any time in the next 3 weeks. :)
