  5. Indeed, they do.

It was pointed out to me, over dinner last night, that I now own a
    single, a twin, a triple and a four[1].

The triple sounds the best. The twin runs it close, though.

    [1] Well, three fours.

Try it with a competition can. Frooty .... [1]

    Paul.

[1] Which, turns out I really needn't have changed back for the MOT
after all, but didn't want the risk of a retest.

    Well, *real* ones do.
Sir needs a six, sir does.
Not from behind, they don't. Can't hear a thing for some horrible
    whiny nonsense.

Oh I dunno. Mine rasps now, plus snarls and pops on the overrun. Not
quite as offensive as the scorpion cans on the VTR, but that's
probably for the best WRT neighbour relations ...

Depends on the triple. Would agree if it was a 500 MV. The sound of
my K75 commuter is as boring as the handling. Just unsorned the Duc'
and did my usual commute this morning1. Blissfull sound. No need to
listen to music on 'phones today! Mind you if I could find a single
that would reliably cruise over a ton, I could be tempted by that even
purer sound (Thinks: Come back Aermacchi, nothing to forgive!)

Shame you missed my tuned Nordwest on ebay last week - ah, "reliably".
Seriously, it's a great shame that Piaggio stopped development of the
bialbero single and an even greater shame that Moto Guzzi did nothing
with the tooling for that engine when they acquired it. In the last
desert racer form and in a revised Saturno (which was rumoured) I think
it would have met your requirements. My old Nordwest engined Saturno
special could - if you could cope with the rearsets and clip-ons.

Rearsets and clip-ons: fine. What was the vibration like? I do 126
    miles a day.
    <pre-empt>
Nah, singles are the pure essence of motorcycles.

Now there's an area of terminology that could use some straightening
out. Why do we say "single" "twin" "triple" and "four" rather than
    "single" "double" "triple" and "quadruple"?

  15. And then maybe that imminent new Honda V5 to fill the gap.

    Or perhaps this:

    I don't think anyone's ever made a seven-cylinder bike, so that just
    leaves a Moto Guzzi V8.

Balnce shaft equipped, so not too bad. I once rode one to Milan and
back without anything vibrating off (or off the bike)
    Quite.
