The pics kinda suck, but anyway:

    Total distance: 4991miles
Houston -> Tucson -> LA -> San Francisco -> Las Vegas -> Flagstaff, AZ
    -> El Paso -> Houston

including Pacific rt.1, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, Hoover
    Dam, Grand Canyon.

    The only way to travel:

    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/IMG_0731.jpg

What I mostly saw on the way to LA, thru Texas, New Mexico and
    Arizona:

    *Yawn*

    Must be near Mexico:
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/CIMG0160.jpg

And there it is, the highway runs along the border:

Radar detector saved me from these bastards a dozen times:

LA Skyline. LA has the worst road system in the world bar none.

Stayed at the Hotel Bel Air deep in Hollywood, reputedly the finest
hotel in the US. Too nice for me, anyway.
Spent a day in Malibu, where a mobile home just sold for $US1.5M.
Insane, beautiful people everywhere, just oozing money. The local
supermarket car park was just a mass of Mercs, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari
    and this gem:
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/CIMG0219.jpg

First highlight, Pacific Route 1. 100miles of the most stunning road,
Pacific on one side, mountains on the other, and some great twisties:

Finally made it to San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge:
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/IMG_0774.jpg

Muir Woods, primeval forest and redwoods:

    Rossi at the corkscrew:

Sat night before the race, big meet in Monterey, maybe 2000 bikes,
didn't get rowdy, just rev-limiter contests:
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/CIMG0298.jpg

The yanks don't do much other than litrebikes, GSX-R, R1, 'busa, CBR,
hardly one with a stock can.
The face of the modern street bike gang:

wanna try stopping that busa from 200mph?

    Everyone was drooling over this:

    Interesting no. of cylinders:

Immaculate Honda sixes, not afraid of joining in the rev-limiter

German helmet, stick on ears, and an MV. Heresy!

Slightly more scenic than Box Hill:
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/1805520296/CIMG0247.jpg
    ...but with weirder people:

If I had access to my home PC, I'd be posting a picture of the
helicopter that I took to the Division One Play-Off Final.
I've taken that road. Fucking magic.
Knowing you, I thought this was going to be a picture of some crumpet.
    And this.

Brother lives in Vegas, been in 46C but with little humidity, it doesn't
feel that hot[1], you dont sweat as much, then again, been in Madras with
40C+ with horrendous humidity is not nice at all.

8pm at night with arm out of jeep, felt like hand-dryer in bog.

I was meaning to ask - this was a hire car, yes? In which case,
didn't it have one of those black boxes that they use in rental cars
in the US that detects you doing 140mph thru the desert, and shuts the
motor down and calls the cops (or something)?

  17. You sweat just as much but it evaporates very very quickly[1]. When it's
humid the sweat does not evaporate quickly.

    Phil.

[1] Thus cooling you better. Hence you don't feel so hot.

No, it's my car. Flying out and hiring a car would have been one
option, but I put up with the 2 days either way just so I could enjoy
the 340bhp V8 goodness when I got to the twisties.

I did manange to see an indicated 165 but I was fucked if I was going
to take my hands from the wheel to take a pic.

Nope it's the same. It used to be a 2.7 twin turbo then Audi went mad
and stuffed the 4.2 V8 into it a couple of years back.

BMW are doing the same with the next M3, 4.0 V8 with 400bhp.
