My son has just turned 13 and wants a trail bike. So I suggested rather than
buy one and a trailer and tow hook for the car we go and have a go on one to
see if he really wants to do it. As it may end up being another 9 day
    wonder.

I would like to know if there is anywhere in South Wales that let's you hire
a bike and some kit with instruction for a couple of hours and do a little
    off road riding.

    Any help appreciated.

PS he has seen these bikes http://www.ghostracingseries.com/ but I am sure
they are crap as I don't think you can get a decent trail bike for a 13ry
    old for less that £1500.00.

I hope I am sort of right.

Look closer - they're just 85cm high and not intended as simply a
    small 'real' bike.

Its in Llandiloes, which isn't too far to go. It's run by Geraint Jones and
his kids and a few others and covers the basics of trials, trail/enduro
    riding and motocross.

For adults it is pretty much straight in both feet first, with no fannying
about, but that's part of the fun. They also do 'Junior' taster days for
the young 'uns but I don't know if they'll still be running at this time of
    year.

http://www.trailrides-wales.com/ would be perfect. It's run by a friend
who organises some of the Welsh rallies & enduros. Teaching kids to
ride off-road is wot she does most.
