Travelling in Australia by Motorbike

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Piers Croft, Aug 29, 2004.

  1. Yes, I can ship from NZ to Aust. but only if I have the space in a
    return shipment.

I spent a small fortune (from mid 1999 to end 2002) advertising in
Kiwi mags to Kiwis and they just didn't "get it". Whereas the Aussie
riders have taken to my bike shipping business in a big way.
Doubt it. Hire bikes are expensive everywhere because hire companies
pay huge insurance premiums whith the exception of S.E. Asia where you
can only hire small (50cc - 125cc) bikes or scooters.
I do all my shipping in and out of NZ through NZ Express. Theyt are a
good outfit and put business my way if it's a route/destination I ship
    to.

So when do you want to bring that Rocket lll over here?

    Kind regards

    Wow....that's quite a diagnosis. (Chortle)
    Insecurities huh? Don't think so...grin.
Underdog? On a Rocket III ? Dunno about that. heheh
As for that bit about Koreans, your behind the times Jules.
It's happening right now. That's why we consumers are able
to buy such good quality motorcycles at very low prices.
    (In NZ anyway.)

    Huh ...
    Bring the Rocket to Aussie??
Might think about that Dave. Very busy polishing it right now. grin.
You'll be the guy I'll call if I decide to come over. Sounds like you
have a good shipping setup for bikes there.
    Cheers,

Oh I'm behind the times, eh? These brilliant mental leaps you regularly
    make continue to impress me.

Do explain how Korean motorcycles have a causal impact on the price and
quality of bikes we as a region purchase?

Of what relevance is any (real or imaginary) difference in price between
    Aus and NZ?

I was in Seoul only a few weeks ago. I'm very impressed with their
    manufacturing capabilities (http://jules.com.au/blog/index.php?p=47) but
I have no reason to believe the Japanese manufacturers are at all
threatened in the mid to high end sports and/or touring market.

Out of curiosity when were you last there?

    Jules

Oh now there's a big man on a big Korean bike. Go get 'em tiger.

"Jules" little fellow, your emotions are showing. *smile*
I think you've forgotten my opinions included China.
If you have any relevant experience you'd know
what's happening. Korean and Chinese made goods
are in fact flooding the world causing many non Asian
manufacturers to lower prices in an effort to compete.
If that doesn't impact on prices your economy must still
be artificially protected. That of course cannot last.
And yes, I have been to many different countries in the
course of business, even Australia where I have many
current contacts, who often comment on how the Chinese
low cost high quality goods have affected their businesses.

What make and model of motorcycle/s do you own and ride?

You're absolutely right - the ideal trip east coast trip is start from Melb,
up the coast road, take the New England Highway to Brisbane (with side trip
via Oxley and Pathetic Hwy... that last bit of the Pathetic is tolerable if
    you've just done the Oxley).

After that I dunno - cue Clem. I've never been further north than Bundaberg
(although I recommend you make a side trip to the Bunya Mountains - magic
    bloody place/road).

The best part of the east coast is south of Bass Strait.

What.. and miss out on the entire length of the Great Ocean Road ?
The best roads between Melbourne and Sydney are off the coast road rather than
    on it.
The "last bit" of the Pacific Highway is 500km? You should be able to cut
    about 450km off that.

    Green eyes huh Marty?
You are so funny. Are you a kiwi? heheh
I've in fact only sat on, polished, and daydreamed about it
as yet. Waiting for the value to increase before I decide
whether to actually ride it on the highway. Might just treat
it with respect, affection, (ok love) and polish it each day.
Don't want the k's to go up, now do I? It fits on the
trailer (enclosed of course) behind my new Ford ute,
so it'll always be with me, unless I take my RX8 instead.

Only the owner/rider of a Jap bike would know about wasted metal.
This is the truth about the handling of my Rocket III Marty.

I think you've forgotten my opinions included China.

What does that mean? You've been there or you watch Discovery channel in
    your ample spare time?
Please elaborate on your "relevant experience".
Certainly a possibility. Show me some substantiated figures to back up
    that claim.
Now how about the relevance of NZ vs Aus prices? Or indeed how about
    answering any of my questions.
Fantastic. Sweeping, generalised statements do much for the credence of
    your arguments.

  17. Who?? me or Eddy Garner??

If it's Eddy then call him on 03 9326 8676 and give him a verbal poke
in the eye with a sharp stick....

....and if it was me then... I didn't receive your email...

....Telstra is having problems again in our area...

.....I've only just got back from unloading a shipment ...

    ....I've been very busy lately....

    etc etc.

But don't come near me with your verbal sharp stick, Hamish
    Alker-Jones!!
