Having just spent a few hours getting the runaround (and googling the
group) let me say that Nationwide are the best, maybe not value for
money, but they cover motorcyclists *and* their pillion, which most
others don't. The AA were happy to cover me, but my partner (pillion)
wouldn't be covered, even if they took out their own policy. Most
other companies don't cover anything other than a 125 on a Greek
island. Nationwide don't even insist that my partner is living with
me, and quoted £88 for joint annual European cover. They cover
medical expenses, but not personal liability whilst on the bike, but
that's part of the bike insurance anyway. Thanks to whoever
    recommended Nationwide :)

Carole Nash Travel Insurance doesn't cover pillions?

    What did InsureAndGo.com say?

I didn't ask them about pillions since their quote was £138
They don't cover motorcycling as such, you have to take out two single
policies (£40 each) and then add the number of days motorcycling
required @ £1.47/day each (motorcycle endorsement, they called it).
Since you have to phone before each trip to confirm motorcycling and
pay the enorsement (including calling from abroad if you wish to add
more days etc) I didn't pursue it.

Was that for two people or one?
    Works for me.

    But my quotes are cheaper.

That was a phone quote today, which I found quite
confusing/complicated. I live in Portsmouth and often go across to
France where the biking is better and a have friends I can visit, so
adding the bike to the insurance each time I travel isn't my preferred
    way.

Same here. I used to work for IBM and had AMEX insurance for years.
I'm self employed now, with a girlfriend who wants to go to France
with me, so I needed to find a policy that was easy - Nationwide just
said yes to everything, and £88 for two people was good value I
thought, as I used to spend £60/year alone.

You're thinking about this whole insurance lark the wrong way...

  8. I've just renewed my yearly world cover for a couple and had to change
companies because a lot of the ins cos have added the term 'Incidental
Basis' for cover for any thing other than the norm.

When I pursued their definition of 'incidental' the examples I was given
    were:

One camel ride is covered the second and subsequent aren't.

A game of tennis is covered, several aren't. If you take your own racket
    none of them are covered.

One try dive is covered more than one isn't. Take your own scuba gear
and none of them are covered.

Take your own crash helmet with you and none of the bike rides are
    covered.

    SNIP examples
I've just renewed again with http://www.scubasure.com/ there's no
issues that I can see with bikes if the rider has a licence, otherwise
it's < 125cc. All the general travel insurance is far too restrictive
    vis-a-vis scuba for me[1][2].

[1] Including CSMA who used to be OK but now limit to 30 metres.
[2] 30 metre limit and the requirement to dive with an instructor[3]
or local guide seem to be the most common.
[3] I had an entertaining but fruitless circular argument with one on
    this score.
