Train costs.

    How fucking much?

A single ticket from Flitwick, Beds to Penrith, Cumbria on a Sunday is
just over 67 quid. I've flown to the south of France for less. Even
after checking and double checking, they couldn't get the price down.
I'm bloody glad someone else is paying.

How the **** can they justify that kind of cost? It's no small wonder to
me that people prefer to drive or take alternative transport. If I
didn't have to drive a car full of gear back I'd most certainly have
gone on the bike, rather then pay that much.

    Robbing fucking bastards

That's fair play. It's like levying a fine on people with bad enough
taste to travel to Hull. And the return journey has the same type of
fine for those stupid enough to want to visit London. Every one's a
    winner.

Pah, you should see the cost of my train ticket.
IIRC train travel has ever been /that/ cheap. Apart from peak times most
trains seem to run half empty so the cost must reflect that, and they
need to make a profit nowadays unlike the good'ol'days.
Got to keep Richard Branson in woolly cardigans somehow.

Doesn't seem too bad to me. It's, what, 250 miles. That would be a
hundred quid at IR mileage rates.

And on the train you get to sit and read a book, chat up the bird next
to you, have a sleep or watch the world go by.

I may as well fucking shoot myself now, or would a Soweto necklace be
    more appropriate?

Same. It's a long way. It would cost a lot to drive it.

I could buy a SOB at each end, speed all the way and then dump it for
that money, and still have enough left for chips.

There's a plan, take the CB250RS and leave it up there. I'd probably
find my new boss had restored it for his collection while I was away
    though.

    So drive.

Jeremy (Top Gear) Clarkson reckons it's greener to drive than taking
the train, so not only will you be doing your bit for the environment,
you'll be stuffing money into the tax coffers to boot. YKIMS

I've only twice returned a company car to the office when I've quit. I
pull the "I no longer work for you, therefore I'm not insured" defence.
One ex-employer left the car, a Cavalier SRi, sitting outside my mates
house for 3 weeks before he sent someone to pick it up. By that time the
wheels and stereo had gone missing. I did warn him that it wasn't the
best area to park a car up for any length of time, but he wouldn't
    listen.
