I've decided I want to acquire a bike trailer. Before I start ransacking
ebag, is there anyone here looking to out one?

So as not to confuse the masses, is that a trailer which allows a
motorcycle to be towed behind a vehicle, or instead a trailer which is
    itself towed behind a motorcycle?

  3. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Gyp belched forth and ejected the following:
Heh, he could have both and be possibly the world's first motorcycle
    road train.

Thanks, man. The thought of Platy pulling a train was a good way to
    start a Saturday morning ...

Hardly the first. It's only a couple of days since I saw a pic of an HD on a
    trailer behind a Wing.

I wonder what the max permissible towing weight is for a Wing?

  9. Erde. That's what you want. Definitely an Erde. Although, I should point
out, that if you buy one of these in kit form, saving about a ton, the
name needs to be changed to [M]Erde.

Unless you have the best part of a day and don't value your knuckles,
    don't buy in kit form.

Well, can a Goldwing legally tow a trailer?
As far as I am aware:

Breaked Trailer, You can legally tow up to the towing vehicle manufacturer's
    towing limit.
Honda do NOT recommend towing with a Goldwing. (it's in the owners handbook)

You can tow a maximum of 750 Kg with an unbraked trailer but you cannot
exceed half the kerb weight of the towing vehicle
(kerb weight is ready to go weight including people)
So as to answer your question:
    Dry weight = 365kg + rider/s + all other crap on a Goldwing
Apparently, as long as it is unbraked you can tow upto about 300kg trailer
    with a Goldwing.

I've been thinking of buying one for months now.

Not much point now, really, until next spring.

What about the bike carriers that mount on a tow bar? no speed
    restriction Vs less carrying capacity

  13. Motorcycle trailers: a short treatise.

    1. No bugger ever has one, but a million buggers are always saying they
    are thinking of buying one.

    2. The reason why no bugger ever has one is because some silly sod has
broken ranks and bought one, so the general feeling is: "Why buy one
when I can always borrow one off XXX?"

    3. There will always be some silly sod who will borrow it to shift
something it wasn't actually designed to haul. Like an armoured car. Or
a Gold Wing, eh, Robbo? This will damage it.

    4. Buying a trailer is the most expensive motorcycling investment you
will ever make. Now, horrible broken, non-running or otherwise immobile
bikes, for sale in the most unlikely parts of the country, become
accessible, whereas previously you'd leave them well alone. "A Suzuki
RE-5? And it's seized up? Where? Thurso? No problem, I'll stick it on
    the trailer."

    5. Tail lights fitted to trailers are all, repeat all, Lambretta
rejects. When was the last time you saw a trailer with all its lights
working properly? In really severe cases, they'll short out your car's
    electrics, too.

    6. The most important trailer accessory, bar none, is a spare wheel. And
    nobody ever bothers buying one.

    7. The one silly sod who does break ranks, and buy a spare wheel to go
with his trailer, will inevitably find that when he does get a puncture,
the wheelbrace in his car is the wrong size to undo the trailer wheel.

    8. Trailers are pikey-magnets. Every gyppo with a hand-painted Transit
equipped with a towbar (or a stolen 4x4 similarly equipped) will cruise
by your house at 2am in the hope of nicking it.

    9. You will almost certainly buy a trailer that is fractionally too
small for your needs. That is, a two-bike trailer will only carry one
proper bike or a brace of mopeds. Treat a two/three bike trailer as a
    minimum.

    10. You will also find, however carefully you've measured it, that the
trailer will be precisely three-quarters of an inch too wide to fit in
your garage or down the side of your house.

  17. You've been able to legally put a trailer on a bike in the UK for years
    now, probably nearly 20.

  18. It's easy to build yer own.
True. Lend it out only with a deposit.
    See above.
Guilty, yeronner. Difference is, I bought a heap of shit unseen and
didn't have a trailer at all. I fully expected to be able to buy one
when I needed it, but as usual, when you need something like that
there's not one to be found.

    I built one instead.
Trailer board - ykims. It can live safely in the boot / garage when not
    in use and remain undamaged.
I've got one - proper size too and it's got a proper hispeed highway
    tyre.
Simple to carry a suitable bar and socket.
True. The local gyppos have been around here when the trailer was
    outside - it's now inside.
    Just a single, ta.
    Not a problem here.

What size, where and how much? I'd prefer a small, single-bike trailer.
