They should ban rocks as well. I have spent a pleasant afternoon
getting a suntan on me back while picking up the broken glass from
another vandal attack on my greenhouse.

The fucker is that I spent about three hours crawling all over it
picking up every splinter I could find without so much as a scratch and
right at the end, as I was clearing up, I drove the mother of all cactus
spines about a centimetre straight into the end of me thumb. Pain out
of all proportion to the injury.

So it's the plants that are at fault....

I can see the headlines now...

    "Ban the Cacti Menace!"

    "Cacti made my kids pregnant!"

    "Cacti attack stupid old giffer!"

    etc

Not strictly no. Actually I blame nature in general and bacterial
action, or rather a lack of it, specifically. I haven't had a cactus in
the greenhouse for over two years and any of the old dropped spines
should have biodegraded a long time ago.

This is gradually changing. The horsey club (forgotten the name) and
some mountain bike groups, specifically IMBA[1] are starting to become
very politically active and powerful and giving the Ramblers some
headaches in the open access arena. Particularly conversion of
footpaths to bridleways and re-opening/re-classification of old routes
    based on new use.

  7. Come and live here. For every road there's an adjacent track.
Apparently, I could go all the way from my house to nearly everywhere
without touching a public road. I think I shall shortly be buying a
    crosser or something.

Anybody want to buy a spanish registered Blackbird?

Your mum lives in Rhayader? Blimey. She'll know Mary at the Lion Royal
& John Leach at the Crown then (I did/do their websites).

Yep Tom's place is just outside St Harmon, a few miles north of
    Rhayader.

I've been teaching blokes to fly RC heli's for donkey's years and that's a
sentiment I'm very familiar with, coz it's prevelant in that hobby too, but
it's still one I've never been able to understand.

The guys who can "do it" (whatever "it" is) tend to be very supportive and
in the position to offer help that otherwise the newbie wouldn't get. It's a
case of learning from some other fucker's mistakes, rather than from your
    own.

When the "noob" HAS got to grips whatever they're learning though, they
don't seem half as reluctant to get training to move from the basics to the
intermediate or higher levels though, so I wouldn't let this reluctance to
get help stop me. If I were you of course. Off roading holds no appeal for
    me though.

  11. Yup, St. Harmon is where me mum lives. A few feet from the pub where the
sign says "bikers welcome" or somesuch.

    OH- Guest

No problem, you will not be in front of them for long ;-)

Or do what I've been contemplating, get a jersey with "Overtaking
    Instructor" stencilled on the back.

For me, the Slow Boys Club status is deserved off road too.
