It seems a load of Italians and a group of Brits were involved in an
accident yesterday on the A470 in Brecon. 2 are dead with 3 or 4 air-lifted
to spinal and other emergency units around Wales.

Seems a van was involved and the old bill are appealing for wotnesses, and
    the driver of the van.

The weather was so poor here yesterday I am supprised anyone was out on
    their bikes at all.

Looks like I got the date it wrong. The weather was brilliant on Friday.
Only heard it on the news this morning.

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the
river cleaned out in a day.

    Fucking weekend riders.

I won't go up there on Bank Holidays and weekends anymore. Although I
sometimes do make it part of my weekday rides from one part of Cardiff to
another (grin). Too many trackday power rangers, who think they are riding
'gods', but have little real experience. Clogging the roads, scaring the
shit out of everybody and generally riding like twats. I guess the wet roads
got them - lack of experience see.

You must be some kind of a riding God then?

They both live in S.Wales so they're bound to share some kind of
    genetic flaw.

Not at all. The thing is I know I'm not.

There is a big space on the spectrum between riding god and dangerous twat.
I am at neither end, though I guess when I first started riding I was more
down the twat end of the scale. I have had my spills over the 34 years I
have been riding, luckily I'm still here, plenty of my mates aren't.

Of course I don't know the circumstances of their sad accident. I have been
riding round here for years and you get to recognise who is out every day
and who only comes out at the weekend when the sun shines. And I know that I
made the decision to stop riding the mountains at weekends some time ago
because the roads were clogged with weekend riders who didn't have a fucking
    clue.

I know that if I have a lay off for some time, even a couple of weeks, my
skills noticeably deteriorate. My riding gets flabby and unfocused and I
have to make an effort to get my edge back.

I guess they were on their way to the Builth Show.

    It was on Friday.

Friday is the start of the weekend - well it is for me and for the dozens of
bikes I saw on the way to the Builth Show - that's them, not me.
Can't answer for the weather up in the hills but it certainly rained here on
Friday - had to put my flat cap on and everything.
