Traffic Enforcement?

Saw a pretend police 4x4 on the M40 this morning with 'Traffic
    Enforcement' written on the back.
It was driving slowly in the left lane with 'Follow Me' flashing on the
    matrix board on the roof.
Nobody seemed to want to overtake it.
What's that about then? Do the cunts have any legal powers?

Usually a rolling roadblock to create space for someone to clear some
    crap off the carriageway ahead.

I believe you are supposed to do what they say in the event of an
incident. Not to do so could constitute an offence.

If you saw a vehicle like that, displaying a sign like that, what would
motivate you to deliberately ignore the instruction?

Do you have a general problem with authority?

Yes. A general problem with abuse of authority.

But it's a fairly safe assumption that if a vehicle of that type is
showing that kind of message, it's probably because they're doing a
rolling roadblock and that won't just be because someone's decided
    they're bored and need entertaining.

Where's the abuse in this context?

Having seen the chaos that the traffic wombles are happy to create on a
whim, I'm really not sure that's true.

Indeed. Which is a lot more efficient, in terms of traffic flow, than
having traffic come to a standstill. Which in turn is why I think it
would be daft to ignore it, whatever the legalities involved.

  14. Or even if the numpties have simply knocked the display switch to the
    'on' position.

Yebbut proper police would be a tad more sensible and be in the middle
    lane with blues flashing.
A plain "Follow me" in the left lane could be interpreted as an
    instruction to a single vehicle.

They don't have blues, they have ambers.

  17. Sheer fucking glorious bloody-mindedness. Is that good enough?
Fucking right I do. Especially cunts in pretend-police uniforms who
couldn't get a job in MacDonalds.

Agreed. That's what we saw in Germany in the summer. Mind, it was
impressive just how fast the police car fucked off ahead once it'd got
    the all-clear.

They'd probably had a call from a member of the public about a foreign
vehicle doing a couple of km/h over the limit. Top priority, that.

But JFGI suggests that the order only applied to the lorry immediately
    behind the VOSA car,
and that they do have the authority to stop you.

So the rolling blockage was unintentional and caused by the ambiguous
    message.
