Trackday anyone?

Cadwell Park in summer, who's up for it?

Post here and I'll gauge interest from that and see if it's worth doing
it. All Cadwell days are likely to be on a Monday with No Limits.

It was well advertised as being full of racers in all groups
beforehand, so anyone coming along would have a choice. It was a No
Limits day, and I wouldn't call them clowns compared to other companies
I've done trackdays with. One of them pulled me in for a chat because I
was riding too fast in intermediate group. I told him to find me a
place in fast group, to which he said there weren't any so I'd have to
slow down. Did I slow down? did I ****.

When racers book the trackday they sometimes just get a place in
whatever group they can if there's racing there the next day, just to
get some practice in. The only way to ensure that never happens is to
never book a trackday on a Friday or Saturday

It's very rare that the more experienced go out in the wrong group -
tbh it doesn't bother me, but I can see some novices being quite scared
by it. I've gone out in novice group when there's been no places in
inters or fast left, you just have to ride with a bit more respect for
those around you because they are usually clueless.

I need to change the gearing on the CBR for this year, that means
buying a box of sprockets. Its way too highly geared as it is.

  4. Possible. Which circuit?

Done the club circuit on Thundercat[1], would be very keen if it was
    full or mountain.

[1] Found my limits[2] quite quickly, bit short, actually preferred
    Mallory.
    [2] Pathetically slow.

I'd only consider the Mountain Circuit.

Scrap that, I mean any circuit that takes in the mountain, so full
included. What's the point in going to Cadwell and not doing the
    mountain?

  7. That's what the last "ukrm" track day felt like toward the end of the
day at Mallory. Albeit being on the RD I had to make some allowances,
but not being a track day virgin it was by far the most aggressive
"slow" group I'd been in. Race prepped bikes really should have no place
in the slow group, but wtf, track days serve a variety of purposes.

When I'm on a track, risk is part of the days entertainment. 90% of the
overtakes were considerate. At this point I remember Lozzo passing me on
the inside at Gerrards on his B6, gave him plenty room, everybody happy.

  8. The Lincs "Yellowbelly" race used to be the "old" mountain circuit which
was - start on the full circuit grid, first right hand hairpin up the
mountain and repeat for 6 laps, was a bit frantic, very short lap! Think
I saw Keith Huewen or Roger Marshall (Q8/Q7?, Quantum something?) win
that shortly before the meeting that Keiths breakdown on the warm-up lap
saw the sad death of Kenny Irons. That's two meetings I've been to I've
    seen a fatal [1].

Post dates ASAP, matey on his Benelli LE and a few others may be
    interested.

Great roads round Cadwell for those travelling, but watch the cameras!

[1] Sadly I think if there was a zoom on the vid I was in the background
for this, and it wasn't much fun:

I knew Kenny Irons, he used to hang out with the crowd I hung around
with at Toddington Services in my youth, on Saturday nights after we
got kicked out of the pub.

Well, for some reason[1] I was moved down from Inters to novice. I was
asked to move back up but stayed where I was because there were fewer
riders in novice group by that time.

[1] I'm told that apparently they had doubts as to whether my Bandit
would make it through the day, and they didn't want it spilling its
guts all over the track in front of much faster riders. That Bandit is
still going strong 2 1/2 years later.

I'll start in inters next time and see if I can cadge a place in fast
    group if I'm going well.

It'd depend on dates and cost. I can do the Ixion one there for a lot
less than the normal organisers charge but if a mob are going from
here and they do a group discount it might be worth it.

The benefit of going with the ixiots is that I could take the KTM as
well as the Kawasaki and with a bit of groveling I'd probably be
allowed out in two different groups as long as I didn't use it as an
extra session iyswim. The down side is that it'd be full of sandal
    wearers.

Will there be noise limits? The Guzzi is a bit loud.

....and to the amazement of the crowd I now have two piece zip together
leathers *and* a full face helmet.

Tempting, but I'm out of paid leave and Lincolnshire's a bit of a trek
    (especially for the stroker).

If anyone else is thinking of heading up from London(ish) with a spare
slot in a van, I could be persuaded.

Ah yes, I forgot there are organised people in the world. I can't
remember the last time I booked time off more than a few weeks in
advance. Which is probably why I had 50 days left to take at the start
    of this year.
