Gavsta says... I see you've got Avon Vipers, what are they like compared to the likes of Diablos etc? The CBR needs tyres because it currently has Dunlop D207s, not even the RR version that I quite like. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
TOG@Toil says... I didn't want some hanging together old shed of a bike as a trackbike, so I bought Blaney's CBR6 off him and it'll do the job nicely. It's not quite as nice as the pics suggest, all the bodywork is slightly damaged in some way except the fuel tank and it needed a fair bit of work to make it safe and reliable. The bike was fundamentally ok, but had been left standing and was a little neglected. The original plan was to put my SV650 on track when I first bought it, but I'm having far too much fun using it on the road to do that to it, plus it's worth too much to wreck in that way. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
eric the brave says... I like the Akro, so it's staying. Everyone seems to have this fixation with falling off and destroying bikes on trackdays. Believe me, I've been to a hell of a lot of trackdays now, and crashing doesn't happen as often as everyone seems to think. £80 for a gennie and warmers sounds good, you have a deal. I'll email to arrange payment and collection. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
steve auvache says... Good, it won't come as any shock to it when it's being caned down Snetterton's back straight then. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
I could see the attraction. I'd be in a hurry to get back to the pits and have a comfy seat fitted too.
steve auvache says... It has a comfy seat, if you're not built like a Belsen survivor. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
That is fucking rich coming from skeletor's body double and that bike has the most uncomfortable perch I have ever sat upon at above NSL1.43
steve auvache says... I'll have you know I have an arse that most women find quite attractive. I'm nowhere near as skinny as I used to be. It's a fucking trackbike, it's not built to go touring on so comfort is way down the list of priorities. I'll only be on it for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time, so it doesn't matter. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
So do I and apparently men do not, for which I am extremely grateful. You are going to trailer it there then?
Bear says... Yeah, why? What's wrong with steel framed CBRs? Cheap, quick enough and handle well enough for someone of my standard of track riding[1], good brakes, plentiful spares...need I go on? Above all, it's cheap. [1] Been told by a cople of instructors I'm top end of Inters but woudn't be good enough for fast group yet. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
steve auvache says... I'll be taking it in a van. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
Steel framed CBR600 lap times for Mallory this year were under the one minute mark, about 2 seconds slower than the Formula 600 bikes were managing. I think Daz Lewis started racing on one and it didn't do him any harm.
Andy Bonwick says... There's still a race series that is dominated by steel framed CBRs. I can't remember which club runs it. There's loads of them out on track on any trackday for the reasons I stated earlier. I can't afford to buy a Gixer 6 or R6 and keep a decent road bike and buy a van - they're just too expensive still. He did quite well on it IIRC. -- Lozzo Triumph Daytona 955i SE Suzuki SV650 K3 Honda CBR600 F-W Suzuki GSX-R750L Yamaha SR250 SpazzTrakka
Bland, possibly, but as fast as anything else. And hardly overweight. These were pre-R6 days. And in those days, Honda didn't market the CBR600 as a sports bike. It was billed as the perfect all-rounder. And, were it not for the VFR750, it probably was.
