Hi i am new to the group and a new rider too.I ride a 2002 GSXR 600 and
have been riding streetbikes for only couple of months now .I used to
ride dirt bikes few years ago.I have also taken MSF basic riders
course.I am really interested in track days and learning to race. How
long should i wait before stepping on to track .Or to take one of these

Riding on the track is a lot safer than the streets. Where are you located
and your age is going to determine what track and org you can ride with.

BTW in the US you're going to have to have full gear to ride road courses
and do trackdays and you'll have to do some modifications to your bike to
    pass tech inspection.

Any other question just ask away.

I would strongly recommend keeping your street ride and your track ride
separate. If you're in the US, you shouldn't have too much of a
problem finding a cheap track-prepped bike in small displacement (think
EX500, SV650). Since you probably have some familiarity with 2 stroke
technology from your dirtbike days, you might even venture out and pick
up a mid- or early 90's 125 GP bike (RS125 most likely).

The reason I advocate this is because having a track bike will greatly
diminish the number of things you'll be concerned with as you're out
riding and trying to learn the track as well as technique. And, of
course, if you find you want to start racing, you'll already have a
platform you'll be able to do something with. You should find that in
your first season of racing, the latest tech and horsepower will not be
much help to you as you'll be busy getting your legs under you,
learning racecraft and continuing to work on your riding style. I
myself started out on an F3 about 4 years ago. I spent a lot of money
on it converting it from street to track. It was a good experience,
though I would have probably gotten a lot more out of it, had I started
out on what was my 2nd race bike: a built up EX 500 with a buttload of
spares that I got for next to nothing. I had some great races on it.
    I'm back on a 600 (F4i) now, but I feel like had my 1st and 2nd bikes
come in the opposite order, I would have been father along.

What track and org would be for a 24 y/o in south Florida? I've heard of
WERA but their web site don't quite say who can join or how for that matter.

I 'm not sure if mothers with dreams for their sons are allowed here, but
    sure could use the info.

    Thanks
