    Anneau du Rhin - http://www.anneau-du-rhin.com/ I'll be there 31st
July with 14 other MVs, after a week trundling round Switzerland,
France, Spain & Italy. Come along for a play if you can make it - we
should be easy to spot in the pits...

Looks interesting. About 45 mins from my house.
I may just do that. Can I infer from your 'play' reference that I'd be
allowed to use the track too? If so, are there any specific rules
    about leathers, etc?

It is a very nice track. It's owned by the Bugatti family, & there's a
museum on-site full of old Ferraris & things.
It's a 'normal' trackday, so no problem with you using it as long as
you book. One guy did it in textile gear last year, so you won't need
1-piece leathers or anything fancy. There wasn't any scrutineering
other than exhaust noise, which they're strict on - most race cans
    won't pass.

OIC. The websiet implied that they only did bookings for clubs, like,
so I presumed that's what you'd have done.
I should be fine with the original can on the gixxer then, although I
note that the standard can on the 2004 R1 doesn't meet their noise
    limits...

Ah right - didn't know that. The guy who organises the annual MV jaunt
sorts it all out. If you want to go but they won't take individual
bookings, let me know & I'll see if I can get you added to our group.
Really? Bloody hell, didn't realise the levels were that low. Some of
the MVs got through last year with the factory race systems, but some
others with identical pipes didn't. Luckily we had a van full of
    standard silencers to use.

Does this mean that vanishing points don't work in the same way they do on
    the road?

It is when you've got a trackday booked for the end of the week, & most
of the bikes are wearing 'musical' exhausts, yes!

The main purpose of the van was to carry the luggage though - far more
civilised than trying to bungee a week's worth of clobber onto the bike.

Ta.

"The ciruit does not directly organise any public trackdays - if
you're a biker who wants to use the circuit, please contact one of the
clubs below and come along with one of them."

I'll let you know closer to the date.
100db at 50 cm from the exhaust on 60% of max revs, apparently.
Although it's taking about cars but presumably the bike limit is the
    same.

No, they do work, but there's very little to judge the VP from -
basically just the kerbs. On the road, there's all the other stuff I
    list above.

I've never seen them on a track either.

As for VPs, I've never fully worked out the 'instructions', as it
were, but I know full well that I do use the same information all the
time in my normal driving/riding. It just seems so obvious that I
can't really work out how, or why, it works; it just does.

I think that's always been worded badly. The vanishing point never "comes
towards you" at all, *you* approach *it*. At least I've never ridden a bend
where it comes towards me, that would be fucking scary. However, when the
bend opens up the Vp does move away from you and really you should be able
    to see it.

Try observing it at slower speeds until you get accustomed to it or
    something. Or give up entirely.

Because you approach it. I said that up there^. And yes, there is a
difference in perception of something coming towards you and you moving
    towards that thing.

Your statements are illogical. If a VP can move away from your relative
position, it can just as easily move towards you relatively. i.e.
quicker than the speed you are travelling at.
This *will* happen on a tightening radius.

I see what you're saying and maybe it'll be of some use to people. I don't
really see it as the VP coming towards me, more me approaching it, I know
it's almost the same thing but the perception is a different one. If the
idea is to reduce one's speed every time the VP appears to advance then
every straight would be very, very slow.
