Track day choices?

    Hi all,

    From a groups.google.com search off the aus.motorcycles group I can see a
    heap of good opinions on NSW track days, but they're pretty old posts.

    I'm wanting to take my bike out to a track, havent been since 99 when I
    binned my RF900 at corporate hill, dammit.. my own stupid fault.

    So, I see a few of the operators have changed, circuitbreakers, stay
    upright, superbike school (Easstern Creek ridedays) and Champion ride days
    are the only ones I can find, anyone got any opinions on which seem to be
    run the best?

    By 'best' I mean no overcrowding, good people etc etc?

    My plan is to head out for a track day to get more used to the new bike,
    then go a superbike school day level 1 (or more) to teach me how not to
    scare the shit out of myself (read as break some bad habits)

    Wakefield park? Oran Park, Eastern Creek??? thoughts??

    How about Superbike school first then go to a trackday?
    Might help to learn how to handle the fear before you go and experience it.

    Do a school first.

    You will get so much more out of subsequent trackdays and everyday riding.

    School will still give you the trackday buzz and learn some skills apart
    from perfecting the fine art of shitting yrself whilst tipping into Turn
    1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12.

    Superbike School...recommended highly...start at L1 and keep doing them.

    Thanks justAl and Alx,

    My reason for wanting the trackday first was a few months back I did
    the stayupright advanced course at Oran Park, no scares there, had a ball
    too, but that was on a very different bike (Duke Monster 620) and I'm sure
    to get the most out of Keith Code's lessons I need to better 'understand'
    the new bike (CBR1000RR), know what I mean?? I don't want to go to the
    school having to get used to the bike and miss the better info I could have
    once I'm comfortable riding round a track.... sorry, hard to get the point
    across! Safe to say I'm not too worried about riding a track day but I'd
    still like opinions on who runs a good - safeish - day.

    Any thoughts on the track days run in NSW would be fantastic, might also
    help to update the posts so others searching through later (like I did) will
    get some good info?!

    Eastern Creek is the best track in NSW (IMNSHO) but it's also pretty
    dear now there's a monopoly.

    You're better off doing superbike school then the track day though.

    I don't think that will be a problem. You will be starting fairly
    slowly, and doing a reasonable number of laps without brakes and in a
    high gear, and you will be spending a lot of time on learning throttle
    control and bike placement.

    In other words, you will be in the perfect environment to get used to
    the bike, perhaps even to learn it right rather than have bad habits
    get in the way.

    and even worse you have to book in 7+ days in advance, and pre-pay, to
    guarantee your spot. They won't reserve a spot for you unless you pay at the
    time.

    Then if it rains....................ka-ching, money down the gurgler

    Actually... :)

    a week ago the superbike school was running at the 'creek, I was hoping to
    get in then but work committments prevented me pre-booking... the day before
    it was to run things changed at work and it was looking like I could go so I
    called them even though their site showed "waiting list only" or something
    similar, they said its no problem and to confirm late that arvo if I can
    make it for sure (the school ran the next morning)... work forced me not to
    go but draw from that you *could* take a chance and leave it till the last
    second... but then you run the risk of not getting in... still.. not a bad
    option in case its forecast for pouring rain.

    On the other hand I also read a good post about a guy who did the school
    number 1 while it was raining, reckons there would have been no difference
    if it was dry anyway since they focussed on technique for the Level 1
    course, and left Level 2 for bringing the speed up.... good practise in the
    wet too. For's and Againsts in all situations though.

    Thanks all for the info, I'm 'prebooking' the June one now.
