Tours NT

  1. Would any one be interested in a backup vehicle hire for remote
motorcycle tours in Central Australia, or hire of bikes with guides?
sweep riders, testing the waters for possible venture, can assist with
the unknown places that really make for some of the most unique riding
experieances, rides from novice to advanced.

    Hi Paul.

I'd guess that there would be some interested folk here in Oz, but
wouldn't you main market be in Europe, Canada and the US?

A few of my friends have done the motorcycling tours in India, Turkey,
South America and South Africa, but, generally, they are the type of
folk who, if they want to see Central Oz, will just load up their bikes
    and do it.

I'm assuming you have a commercial venture in mind, and, while it maybe
a bit off what you are thinking about, I investigated my wife and I
having a holiday in the NT and northern part of WA, and found that it
was just totally too expensive. In a large part, this was because of the
stupid price of airfares within Oz.

Not just airfares. We have Rottnest island 20 kms from Fremantle. On it
there's some beaches, a pub, and some ridiculously priced no-star
accommodation. A week on Rotto with nothing to do will cost you more than
two weeks in Bali, and it's only an hour away by ferry. Oh, you can't book
for most of it either. You put your name on the list a year ahead and they
draw the losers out of a hat.

Supply and demand. Too many people in Perth, because I can remember
and I bet you can too, when you just hopped a ferry to Rotto any time
you damn well pleased, set up a tent or paid for a bungalow, and all
    was sweet.

  6. Yes the Airfares are definately no good at the minute in Cenral Aus,
however Tiger Airways are starting he in December, this should give
QANTAS a run, a family of 4 to fly to Qld $3500 at present, I started
this post after a couple of mates started talking about organised bike
tours, The country here is just spectacular to ride if you are in the
know, other wise it can be a little boring if you stay with the
designated tour route, we can put together a ride from 1 to 6 days
incorporating most of the iconic features of Central Aus and use
little known routes that really put you into great desert riding mode,
I see alot of people passing through on big trailie's all loaded to
the hilt, some I've spoken to are sticking to these established and
mostly bitumen roads due to time restraints, no knowledge of the area
and are a little apprehensive about the remoteness, the Europeans are
blown away,"it does'nt look that far on the map" is not a uncommon
statement, No idea, What I'm proposing is to give a service to lead
these individuals to these places and show them something that only a
real adventure ride can give, a huge sense of acheivement, and have
the local knowledge and peace of mind that help is not to far away if
needed. This is not a money making venture this is a couple of mates
who love this country and wish to share it with like minded
individuals. We are fortunate that our employment means we only work
13 day/mth 12hr shifts, so we get plenty of time to ride, the rates
that would be charged would cover running costs of vehicles 4x4 and
bikes, food can be supplied if required, bush camping or can inclued
any style of accomodation, we can work with the client to work out
anything of interest for them totally flexible. Just an idea at the
    minute.

And it is a good idea, but.... I'm not sure if you could make it work on
    such a casual basis.

Perhaps, with a web-site where you could describe some of the possible
routes and things to see, you'd be able to test the waters as to
interest. Some folk would just use it as a planning tool for their own
trip, others may contact you. <shrug>

I tend to think that there is a market there for what you can supply,
but you'd be better to aim for a seriously professional, and money
    making, effort.

Dunno how laid back NT is, but something along the lines of what you
describe would require all sorts of licences and insurances if you
wanted to try it in NSW. :-|
