For once, genuine help needed. I am bringing my Manx Girlfriend over to the UK to see my folks for a few days at the end of the month. They live near Woburn and the missus wants a visit to London for a couple of days. I have arranged a nights stay in a hotel near Hyde Park, but what I want to know is: What, really, are the best things to go to for a couple of days of sightseeing and general touristism visit to the capital, without falling for the tourist trap stuff. I have not been to London for years, amd would not have a clue where to start. London Eye maybe? Anyone help please? -- Gavsta GSXR600K1 Z750 Race bike Team NFG R6 Race bike (also shared, and now fixed) http://www.stoof.co.uk

London Eye is a must see but remember to book. Nice walks to be had along the Embankment maybe look in at Tate Modern, the Wobbly Bridge and St Paul's. Other than that, avoid Leicester Square[1]. The museums if you get time and the million other things one can do.... [1] It's full of effing tourists.
Ooh, wouldn't go on there, made by Dutch people ;-) But inspected by .... me! (well, OK, not *all* of it).

Please spare a thought for the locals. I like gadgets and work in Tottenham Court Road. I can testify this doesn't do your bank balance much good. So be warned.
The Eye is excellent - if you get a good day! HMS Belfast & Tower Bridge are good & close to each other. The Cabinet War rooms are good (in Horse Guards). Imperial War museum is close by as well. -- Stu XJ900 YTC#11 OSOS#23 pull my plonker when replying
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Sean Doherty said: Don't forget the frog tour. That's a bus that goes in and out of water. It does a quick road tour and then drives into the Thames and you get shown loads of little known things. I remember this because that's the last thing I did before I binned my bandit. Oh, perhaps not such a good choice ;-) Try having a look here http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/listings
As fun as they sound, it's worth bearing in mind he'll have his girlfriend with him. IME guns and girls don't mix.

Last time I went to London someone threatened me for "looking at them funny", so try "looking at people funny" for hours of jovial banter with street pikeys. Arrange to go drinking with UKRM, you'll be amazed how polite they all are to your girlfriend. Catch one of the last trains on the Northern line for a thrilling exparience, feel the fear and smell the wee, it's like a special theme park. Once you reach the end of the line get the night bus back into town for twice the fun. The next day you'll need some smelly home made egg sandwiches, and head over to Broadgate Circle (near liverpool st. station) I think they have ice skating on this time of year. Stand on one of the higher levels eating the egg sandwich and allow bits of it to drop down, on financial types. They'll love it as they usually don't have time for lunch, this will make you feel charitable. Buy a bottle of fairy washing up liquid and put it in the fountains at trafalgar square, they get dirty this time of year and the street pikeys you met earlier always need somewhere to wash. Go to Jamie Oliver's restaurant and demand to eat only the food made from the products he buys at Sainsbury's. Afterwards tell him the meal is pukka. Ride in a taxi and tell the driver he sounds just like that chimney sweep bloke out of Mary Poppins. Finally go to Buckingham Palace and demand to see the queen, they may not let you in initially but there's a secret phrase you need to know. Find one of the tour guides wearing red, they usually wear a large hat, and say the following words: "I am a follower of Osama Bin Laden, take me to the queen now or fire will rain down from the heavens. You western dog!". They will then accompany you to the secret palace entrance. If the queen likes you you'll be allowed to stay at her place for a while free of charge! How cool is that?
Tower of London/ Tower Bridge (just walk around it) The monument/ St Pauls Tube to Baker street. Trafalgar Square/ National Gallery Walk down to Downing Street and the Houses of Parliment Then walk to Buck Palace then through Green park turn right and have tea in The Ritz. Apart from The Ritz (£50 ish) the rest is free!
