Permission seems to be forthcoming so I'm currently planning a nice
bimble down to Folkstone and then either a blast or bimble across France
    as the mood takes me.

Whatever happens the RS is staying at home.

I'm sure the vicar will be free another Saturday around then.
Don't pussy-foot around the issue, captain. Tell the cunts where they

Jesus, Ben. Even for someone of your limited mechanical experience,
replacing the tank and side panels is a three-minute job, requiring no
tools at all. Just unlock and open the seat, pull the bit of string on
the rubber strap that holds the tank on and lift it off, remembering
to turn off and disconnect the pipe from the petrol tap first, of
course. The side panels are just popped onto a rubber grommet and two
tabs - just pull the bottom away from the bike and lift off.

Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

The seat might take about ten minutes to swap and require the use of a
12mm spanner and a pair of pliers.
The original seat is still perfect, so doesn't need the replacement,
although I suppose you could put it on for shows if so inclined, but I
can see it would benefit from the new tank and panels, certainly. The
rear mudguard was the only part I really wanted to replace, in fact.
Although lacking a new rubber stop, which is still kicking around the
garage somewhere, together with the receipt - Ben, give me a snail
mail address and I'll post it on...
A touch of rust on the front rim, but nothing too bad.

Apart from that it's pretty good, although to get it up to concourse
nick you'd need to strip and respray/coat just about everything from
the engine & frame to the fork outers, via bits like the
switchgear/lever mounts, headlight and bracket, indicator stalks,
etc. etc. They're all perfectly good, but look there age, is all.

Oh, but it does need at least one fork seal, which I mentioned to
Blaney, although he's probably forgotten it.
Yes it has. It came with the tray and I acquired the lid from the
    esteemed Messrs Silver.
I put together an appropriate toolkit out of old Honda and Yammie
tools wot I had lying around, together with a plug wrench, and I'm
fairly sure I left it in there. Wouldn't mind having it back, as it
    goes...

We at least had the excuse of having booked our Canada trip before
she'd set the date. Shame really, I'd have liked to have been there.

That's extremely kind, but I wouldn't dream of imposing on your time
    in this way.

Besides, Swift's will be MOTing it, and oil-changing, and stuff, so
they can do it all at the same time.
    An honoured guest!
Yeah, he's not a bad old buffer, really. I'd ask to come to Chimay,
but of course he works weekends.
How about settling for breaking some continental traffic regulations
    on it?
    Anything sparkly and new!

That's true, except that I'm in Kuwait and the bike is in Surrey.
That's the tricky bit. So I'll have it all done, so that it's ready
to roll when I fly in for the Chimay tomfoolery.
The poor fucker had a fat **** holding the throttle to the stop for
ten hours. I reckon it deserves some TLC.
Thanks - I'll send you my parent's address.
Ok, I'll take that off you, Neil. Let me know how much; I'll lob the
dough over (by the evils of internet wanking), and if you don't mind
    hanging onto it until July...
I'll give it to you, in person, in Chimay.[0] See you there.

[0] I'll post it if you want, but I'd rather have the pleasure of
    your company.

Have the toolkit, yes, but let some other poor fucker have the tray &
lid. The lids are available, but the trays are like rocking horse
    shit.
I sorta meant to go the last couple of times, when I at least had a
suitable bike to do it on. Now I'd have to be on the gixxer or in the
car. But TBH it's the camping at the track bit that more puts me off -
I'm just not up for that at all. Maybe I could take the Volvo and just
put a mattress in the back... also serve as a beer delivery and
    general support vehicle...

Hmmm, I can almost see a plan coming together...

Yeah, it's not the sort of job where he can quietly bunk off on a

Don't forget what I told you about the chrome lifting handle......

Don't you actually read what anyone posts in reply to you? Go up three
posts and you'll have the answer.

  16. They reckon 180,000 people to the race with 100,000 people on average
for each of the other of the days.

That's say 100,000 visiting supermarkets, local cafés, restaurants, fuel
stations, cafés on the ray there and way back, etc., locally and in the
area. And this was for just one event.

They must really be feeling the pinch.

I'd really have liked to be there, and I tried really hard to organise
me snow trip to be pre-xmas, but it just didn't come off. If I'd
missed the Calif trip then the first time I would have been on snow
this season would have been very shortly after the first heli drop in
Russia, which I thought less than sensible.

Christ yes. I remember at the supermarket one bloke working full time
dropping palattes of beer on the floor from the storeroom - it took
about 90 seconds for it to be stripped by the waiting bikers, then he
took the empty pallet out and returned with a full one. By the time
he got back, there was another queue of bikers waiting like locusts to
    strip the new pallet.

  20. I'd have been there somewhere.....

I liked the way they pushed all the supermarket aisles together, to make
them narrower, and used the extra space for this *humungous* stack of
    beer packs.
