Maybe Going to NZ for a week. Live in Sydney and own a 250cc bike. on
P's. Would like to ride whilst over there!

Read a magazine from months ago where someone shipped their bike over
to NZ and rode around. Would anyone reccomend doing this and can think
of problems/costs that might be found.

Alternatley, has anyone hired a bike in NZ and can provide their
    experiences?

    cheers, Dave

Hired a 650 cc BMW. two weeks.. it was expensive...could have got a car for
half the price... the insurance is the killer.. only toured the South Island
    last year....

I've read the same article, and was interested in touring NZ as well.
However I would not want to do it on my 250 so I checked out the hire costs
on the net. Plenty of companies to choose from, but as someone else has
already said, it is damn expensive and you have to be over 25 years old to
be able to rent from most of the companies.
Also, look into going for longer if you are taking your own bike. If you go
to all the effort to ship it over there, you might as well make the most of
    the experience and your money.

Hiring bikes here is expensive but i dont know how that would weigh up with
    bringing yours over here.
If your coming to Auckland drop me a line and I will show you the sights!

For one week it will be cheaper to rent a bike.

Do a search in Yahoo to see the options.

Shipping by Air is apparently 800AUD each way so unless your there for
a month its not worth it (remember there are other costs also, duty,
    rego etc...).

Not worth it for a week.

  7. Hi Dave,

I do regular shipments from Melbourne in January, February & March.
Just bikes are shipped on my own motorcycle specific cradles. I would
charge your $1350 to get your bike there and back and that includes
NZ's Tourist Rego & 3rd Party Person insurance.

But If you're only going to NZ for a week then get a hire bike from
John Rains at Te Waipounamu Motorcycle Tours in Christchurch. ph + 64
    3 372 3537 or www.motorcycle-hire.co.nz/ - they also have a branch in
Auckland. I know this guy and can recommend him.

If you're under 25 and on P plates you may have a problem with
    insurance.

Think about going for longer and ship your own bike over in February.
It's after school holidays so accommodation is easier to find.

If you have any questions please call me on 03 9331 0947.

    Kind regards

    Hi Dave...

I see AE Milligan has replied... he's the ma to chat to...

I am in Auckland.. if I can assist drop me an email.... I would say that
hiring would be hard... on a p plate... insurance is the killer.

Also, best heck up whether you can ride on a p plate here from Aussie...
