I had a day off work yesterday, for what I thought would be the
daunting task of fireing up the inherited MZ. I'd cleaned the tank out
(thanks for the tips chaps), worked out the ingnition key (again
thanks), fitted a new battery, plug, and HT lead, considering the last
time it burned any oil was in 1986 I was getting ready for some
dismantling. Kicked it over a few times, made sure there was a spark
etc, then took it to the top of the drive and ran like mad down the
hill (towards the pub), dumped the clutch and the scruffy little sod
bust into life straight away doing a fine impersonation of the Crazy
Frog, doesn't want to run without the cold start lever open but hey
give it a break . Needs some bits for MOT but nothing to major I hope.

    Cheers

Sound plan. Well done, that man.

definitely - if the thing had failed to start, he could have just
slung it in the gutter and gone and had a pint.

I read TOG's reply first and did think that the OP hadn't actually
taken the bike down the hill with him, and had indeed gone straight to
the pub. Which made a lot of sense.

Seems a bit of a steep exchange rate though. Unless it was _really_
    cheap beer.

It did cross my mind....Hmmm MZ or pint of Masterbrew..I wonder, the
