Do you not read much?
I have all day to read.
What? You claim to be able to know what I'm thinking across the internet, claim that unemployment costs more than the defence budget and *I'm* taking lessons from Des? I accept that the social security budget is greater than the defence budge - but that isn't what you said. You said in Message-ID: I choose to take issue with one part of that. I'm right, and *you* can't admit it. *You* are taking lessons from Des.
Spoken by someone who can afford to pay it. It's discriminatory and devisive. I don't believe that *any* commodity should be made scarce by price and at the very least the fuel tax should be reclaimable by those in rural areas.
I drive in Sweden sometimes. In built up areas there is a 18 mph limit. Most swedes actually obey it. And their accident stats are almost as good as theirs per head of the pop. And thats loads of rural bad roads and ice and snow 3 months of the year. If car drivers went as slowly as they do in sweden, it would be a safer place for bikes. (and push bikes) There is one in worthing near where I almost got killed as a schoolboy. People drive much slower there now... I quite like them.... Never been caught by one though...

Ooh I do... Veal. Foie Gras. Hugo Boss. Diamonds. Healthcare. Housing. ...and that's just for starters.
Fuel prices should be raised due to the environmental impact. The fuels which do not harm the environment (like H2) can compete on price viability. They do this in austrailia. You get a grant to help you convert your car to envronmentally friendly gas....
That's irrelevant to the manner in which I have formed my opinion of the level of fuel duty. And it's irrelevant to anyone else justifying it, isn't it - you're not going to get A.N. Other, M.P standing up in the Commons saying "Blaney can afford it, and he reckons it's ok, so it must be". Erm.. it discriminates against people who the commodity in question. Yes, that's what a tax does. Divisive? It divides people? Does it? What are you going to do about the price of diamonds, or saffron? This is so laughable. In the first instance, refer to the "impractical" arguments we explored over the means-tested fines for speeding in this thread. In the second instance, you're totally missing - or, I suspect, ignoring - the justification for the level of duty. Moreover, you don't appear to be arguing the position of the people who organised the Fuel Blockades. Your arguments are so flimsy you must be making them up as you go along.
No, you said that. I didn't claim to be a mind reader. By misinterpreting the meaning of the words. Unless you are a mind reader? "I'm right, and *you* can't admit it"...© Des 2001,2002,2003 etc. HTH
