Tories tackle speed camera rules

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by CT, Dec 30, 2003.

  1. I'm thinking of several high profile cases in the last ten years where
the defendants had huuuuuge stacks of cash hidden away and got legal
    aid.
It reflects how much they pay their tame QC and financial whizz kid.
    Hey I'm agreeing with Ben!

Once again UKRM leaves me speechless. It's a microcosm of why we have such a
fucked up country, government and society.
Owning a (legal) vehicle capable of decent speed required a level of
    privilege in global terms BTW.

  4. Impractical, yes, but still a nice idea.

Most means testing is a nice idea but impractical.

Depends what proportion of "Social Protection" is unemployment benefit.

We have 1m unemployed, getting 60 quid a week. Which is 3.1 billion.

To be honest, I most objected to the use of the word "subsidy" in
relation to the unemployed. The connotations are unpleasant and
    unbecoming.

  6. If I remember correctly some one has been enforcing this philosophy with
    petrol in Norfolk.
    I'll second that.

I agree with it in principle, but it won't work, and it's folly to
pretend that it will. And if it won't work, it's a bad idea.

  13. It has to now.
It has sold off half of our gold reserves on the quiet to pay for
    policies it has implemented.

No they're not YTC. The definition of a subsidy is: ' a grant [1] paid
by a government to an enterprise that benefits the public'. What's
    unpleasant and unbecoming about that?

IMHO I think that mostly you didn't attempt to understand what was
    written before replying.
