Have you? I've got a couple on tape but the CDs seem to have been
deleted now. I think he writes some lovely lyrics.

Yeah. Bought it because one of my favourite jazz singers (Claire
Martin) sings a couple of his songs (Partners in Crime and Queen Bee),
    and they're *superb*.
    Dead right.

Given that it's not available, I don't feel bad about asking you if you
    want a copy.

    Do you want a copy?

Sorry to butt in, Ben - but on a slightly different tack ... have you
heard of Joss Stone? She has the best soul voice I've ever heard -
and she's 16 years old. She sings like Aretha only better, like. At
    16, ffs.

No. Never. Picked a Jazz mag this morning though (fnarr fnarr) so I'll
    have a look for reviews/gigs.

Does her age add to her appeal?

Maybe you should go to http://www.s-curverecords.com/joss/ and find out
for yourself. I'm currently d/loading the video interview with her. A
more unassuming girl you could never hope to see, and a voice that puts
every 'Pop Idol', 'Fame Academy' and any other talent show contestant to
    shame.

I was brought up on a diet of 70's soul/northern soul music, mainly
through my elder sister's influence. This girl has a vocal range that
knocks the socks off all of the female singers I listened to back then,
and what makes it even more special is she's a small built, pretty, 16
yr old white girl from Devon, with the singing voice of a much older
    black girl from Detroit.

Her version of the White Stripes 'Fell in love with a girl' is
brilliant, and one of those cover versions that is infinitely better
    than the original.

At the risk of chomping a chunk of odious bait, no. Her age is
relevant in that singing voices tend to gather power and range over
time, and her voice is (to my ears) incredibly mature for a little
girl. She really has a tremendous vocal delivery - you would swear
you were listening to a mature soul singer with many years of
experience and training (and hard living and cigars) behind her.

No, seriously, spot on, mate. She's truly talented with a hell of a voice
made more impressive still because, as you say, she comes across as an
unassuming West Country girl whose speaking voice doesn't begin to hint at
the power and range she can control.

I couldn't help whilst watching the video but think of Janis Joplin (rest
her soul). Let's hope her management (and family) looks after her, eh?

    Way cool.

  13. Just had a listen. Have to say I was somewhat surprised but I have to
agree with the sentiments expressed so far concerning her voice. She'll
go far provided she's guided and managed properly.
