No, not "*ding*", more likely *bzzt!*.

Are we off on the semantics tip here and are merely referring to the
physical, mechanical act of mastication and swallowing?

    If so, consider me whooshed.

On the other hand, if Owen was referring to enjoying good food (the taste,
the aromas, the aesthetic appeal, etc.) then mups has only half an
argument and you, Will, are just affirming the bit you wanted to latch on
to that I surmised in my initial postulation.

    On the other hand, Wibble-flip-dibble-doo.

Alcohol reacts very badly with both the arthritis and the
    medication I take for it.

Fortunately the desire to drink goes away with the ability to
    handle it..

I have maybe 2-3 glasses of red wine a week. No beer and no spirits
    either.

  4. I dunno - I have 2 eating modes:

Food is fuel - when eating stuff I really don't like but has been put
in front of me. Open wide and shovel it in without tasting it.

Food is fun - if I'm eating stuff I like. Like a good ChateauBriand
steak. Then it can be a very very big pleasure..

Mind you - all these things are very subjective.

I enjoy social side of going out for a meal the meeting people, chatting,
putting the world to rights, getting thrown out of a curry house at 2:00am
type thing. But the taste, aromas etc.. of food isn't high up on my list of
    'greatest pleasures in life'.
Of course some food is better than others but it's only food in the end.
Surprisingly I'm married to a very good chief who can't understand my
    ambivalence to all things foody.

I don't think there's any argument that you enjoy food, Wik

Simple - if I listed my top ten greatest pleasures in life, eating
    wouldn't be in there.

My dear old mum has arthritis...
Interesting. In the case of my dear old mum, she's allowed to drink, but
it's /red/ wine, specifically, that aggravates the pain. She was advised
by her quack to steer clear of the stuff but not to abstain from booze,
    per se.

  13. I think it would be at the top of mine. I remember listening to Desert
Island Discs as a kid and agreeing wholeheartedly with my Mum that
freshly-baked bread every day would have to be the luxury.

Besides which, if I didn't eat, I think I'd die.

Heh. We watched Rick Stein's programme the other night when he went
on at great length about soda bread, shwoed how to make it and then -
when it came out of the oven - and the butter melted into it ...

Next night, Elly molished beef stew and soda bread hot out of the oven
    :))

Earlier this week - liver and bacon casserole with soda bread hot out
    of the oven :))

I do enjoy good solid scoff, I do.

  17. Fortunately mine isn't the old person sort - it's caused by the
same thing as psoriasis except it affects the joint membranes.

    It seems to help me.
