Ask the person you're sending the mail to what they prefer if it really
matters that much or you can't work out what's best.

  6. I receive over 50 emails a day, so asking them all what they prefer is
    obviously a non-starter

    Gmail reckons top.

    My contacts reckon bottom.

Makes using gmail a pain in the arse.

Ain't dat de fookin troof, brother.

I'll post below, in context. As always.

Unless its a massively snippable megaline email in which case I'll
snip all but the first few lines and reply at the top.

I was more thinking that it doesn't matter that much, but here's a
thought - you don't have to ask all 50!

Bottom (or inline) posting on a group such as this does have a point.
It makes the thread of conversation easier to follow. You need to see
each reply in context as there can be days between you reading one post
    and its reply.

I find that for very short emails (1 or 2 lines) discussing things in
an IM fashion I'll top-mail, for anything in depth it tends to be
inline, and if it's business I'll go with the flow or bottom-mail.

No-one's lynched me yet, and in personal correspondance I'd try to make
sure the people I'm mailing have more important and interesting things
    to discuss.

So basically, if you've an ounce of sense you'll figure it out?

    Well said.

  14. Yes I am aware that I would get flamed to buggery if I even thought of top
posting on this newsgroup but what is the prefered method when replying to
    an email ?
