Well done that wide-mouthed-but-I'd-do-her semi Derby semi-French sailing
bird in the crap car, missus!

And the shite supercars were just great!

SWMBO saw the last 2 minutes and said that tghey may be crao, but at least
    they look cool..

And she has a point. For £400k I could have a Zonda F and have a realy good
car that says I have a very small cock, but I'd want to drive it.

For £7k I can do the same with a '70s Lambo and not even need to put petrol
in it if I just leave it in front of the house...

Did you see Evo magazine's test of it? Holy crap! It's just an utterly
amazing piece of kit; 8-litres of quad-turbo'd W16 engine, DSG gearbox,
    four-wheel-drive, 0-62mph in 2.5sec, 0-125mph in 7.3sec and 0-186mph in
16.7sec and then on to a maximum of 253mph! Mind you, it ought to be
just a little bit special for a round ¤1,000,000, eh?

What wasthe lap time of the Astra round Castle Doom? Just interested
as my fastest lap round there was a 1:29.88s, and then I fell off. Oh,
    and
we had the shitty chicane before the last corner as well...

I was well impressed by Gee Athertons riding as well. Clearing the
    moving car rocked.

I note they forgot to point out that the pushbike he was on was
probably worth more than the Clio than James May was testing...

It probably helps to be very small and light too.

Have to agree, here. Weggy made the point about it being overly
American with respect to last week's air-speed prog and certain people
disagreed. I dismissed it at the time but have since thought back to
the first in the series about the land-speed record and am now thinking
"Umm, yes, actually, this too is very American-biased."

Guess it's their ultimately intended target audience, huh?

I think it would be quite significant. If the car weighs, say 800kg,
then a difference of 40kg in the driver weight is about 5%.

Given that the car is probably under maximum acceleration or maximum
brakeing for most of the lap, and that acceleration (adn deceleration)
is directly proportional to mass, I wouldn't be surprised if it made a
difference of between 2 and 3 seconds per lap.

  9. I think the very fact that she doesn't drive, and claims only to have been
on a go-kart track 'two or three times' meant that she had no ingrained
habits and was prepared to listen to, and learn from, the Stig. She'd have
picked up another couple of tenths if she hadn't gone wide and and a bit
    cross-country on the last corner.

Ah but you're talking about machines which ALL have a power to weight
ratio massively in exxcess of the Suzuki. I imagine all the drivers
spend quite a lot of the lap simply waiting for the cat to build up speed.

But how does that explain Simon Cowell's (now) third place in the rankings?
I mean his head probably weighs 40kg on its own. And his wallet another
    40kg.

    No idea, bribery?

Seriously it'd be interesting to compare the times to the driver's
weight. Then it might have to become a handicapped system to be fair.

EM also queried the amount of fuel in the tank[1] and Clarkson
replied that it wouldn't make any difference. If anyone wants
to calcualte the weight of, say a third of a tank of fuel that "makes
    no difference"....

[1] That it had the same amount in as for other peoples' laps
    or words to that effect.

Makes no difference to Clarkson, but then he's a lardy arse who can't
    drive very fast.

    In message <dn1hv0$scf$-infra.bt.com>,
I don't think she said she did doesn't drive, simply that she'd "not
done this sort of thing" which I take to mean track stuff.

    Well impressive though!
