In some ways they are now faster - but no way are they more fun. I speak as one who rides his XT600E over the Devil's Staircase and around the tiny lanes of Mid Wales. However this post is from someone who has never owned an R1 or a Ferrari (or some such). It would have been interesting to see the Atom pitted against a 1000cc bike. John
Yes, if you could modify the readings of a number of thermostats in a certain location to read falsely we could give one of the worst offenders something to manage. A distraction shall we say... Lozzo will shortly be mainlining two stroke - oh you can handle it can you dear? - and Timo well he can sort himself out. Go on, get to it man.
On the test track - the Atom would eat it for breakfast. On real roads - bike every time. BTW, you're relatively local to me if you ride the Devil's Staircase..... did you notice the test of the 1-series was on the A4059 from Hirwaun?
In this case there sort of was. They put an Atom sportscar on the track against a CBR600RR. The Atom won, but it did have a 300BHP supercharged engine and weighed 500lbs. I'd have prefered to see them have used a litrebike.
You don't wanna XT600E for that, you want a GL1500, you do. I suspect that the effect would have been the same. The car can always brake later and corner faster than a bike.
