I'd like to fit something to my SV650 to carry stuff while commuting and
I was thinking about a top box

Givi ones seem considerably dearer than say "On 2 Wheels". Are they
    worth the extra?

Does the type of rack mae a difference; the SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack looks
nice but doesn't seem to be available for the older SV

Get a small box, and preferably one of those click-on and click-off
ones. Remember they do strange things to the handling if they're
    heavily loaded.

Top boxes look shit. Get a tank bag and some panniers

And some tape to protect the sides and extra touch up paint for when you
get grit under the magnets for the tank bag (even with that cloth stuff).

And then some method of locking stuff in place.

They might be shit but they are handy :)

And it looks like it's meant to be there. A top box looks about as
natural as TV bolted to a dolphin.

    Now now, fair's fair.

On a loosly related note, I have received permission from SWMBO to absent
myself from domestic bliss on the 1st May. It is, therefore, my intention
to buggar up your day by proceeding South from Shropshire, attempting not to
upset too many constabularies on the way.

Seems churlish not to go for Chepstow, but I will play the 'If its
absolutely pissing down change to Hay card' at this point.

One thing I find on the SV650 is that it's a bit top heavy when
stationary and rather taller than my stumpy legs like. I wouldn't put a
    top box on it myself.

I've done that: with the key in my coat pocket.

I like my top boxes. Dead handy they are. I think the wing would look
a bit odd without one, tbh.

Too bloody right I wouldn't - I've only just given the bike it's post
    winter wash.

That's why I said 'post winter' wash....

It's washed twice a year, on average. Once before I put it away for the
winter, and once to get rid of the layer of dust after a few months in
    the garage.

The Wing's still got Spanish dirt on it from last August.

he said top box, not a fucking milk crate[1].

[1] I saw a gixer thou with a milk crate bolted to the rear seat when we
    were in Hawaii.

Can you get 6 bottles of beer and a bag of crisps in the baglux?
