I'm pretty sure it was formerly "The Spastics Society".

It's probably a case that it's becoming more and more common and
assembling their flat pack is the nearest we have, as a nation, to
    something in common [1].

Who'd have believed it? Billy shelves the new Eric and Ernie.

As with most things when it becomes common place there's a reaction to
it; typified by the lazy criticisms demonstrated by Phil. It was much
the same with Habitat and, to a lesser extent, Athena posters in the
    eighties.

It had simply become identikit furnishing.

I have a fair bit of Ikea stuff and it is generally reasonable quality
for a reasonable price [2]. I do, however, avoid having items that are
immediately identifiable as coming from them but that's because I no
longer perceive Ikea as fashionable and I mentally tick off the Ikea
    catalogue in other peoples homes.

[1] Can't say I've ever had a problem assembling it.
[2] Ikea pricing has been described (by Sandi Toksvig) as "completely
random: they must just throw the price labels in the air".

    'Fashionable'?

If it's half decent furniture at the right price, and more importantly, you
like the look of, who gives a shit about whether in the eyes of others, it's
    'in'?

Admittedly not all their stuff is that great, but on the whole, when I've
helped assemble stuff of theirs in the past, it's come across as reasonably
well built and sturdy, especially in 'flat pack' terms.
    'Snob!' :p

No I, I'm afraid. Although I'm a big fan of FC I also like Ikea.

EBay has it's uses. I bought 670 quids worth of Ohlins shock for 370
quid recently. I'm due a delivery from another seller, 2 GPZ500 fuel
tanks - one of which is like new and the correct coclour for my GPZ -
    for 3 quid.

    I like eBay.

  8. Well it seems that you can add that to 'curry', as being one of only two
things that are better in the UK than in France. Here, whenever I check
out ebay.fr for K100 parts, all I get are 'wheel hubs for BMW 3 series'
or what the **** have you.

Every now and then a bargain comes along that you would be daft to miss

I've just unwrapped the shiny new front wheel I got for the GL1500
(together with a rear) for £140, and it's got a *brand new* tyre on
    it. :)

That's what I love about eBay. I wouldn't have considered buying a new
Ohlins shock, but as they come up now and then at reasonable money I
thought I'd have a bid. I've seen full Akrapovic titanium systems for
mine for about 300 quid, but I don't like race cans, so won't be
    bidding.
