Amazing what people will pay an excessive amount of money for, just
    because it's on eBay.
I've often wondered about the possibilities of buying stuff from, say,
CostCo and punting it out on eBay. Some people will buy anything if they
    think they're getting a bargain.

I thought it was well known that some people buy stuff from various
discount/end of line suppliers and punt it out on eBay as a living.

  5. Habitat? One of the many other 'lifestyle' DIY places?

If fact anywhere else than the over-hyped, under-qualitied pretentions
    taste-free zone that is Ikea..

Oh, probably. Just doesn't tend to be the sort of stuff I look for on
eBay, I guess - I suspect I've probably looked at <1% of the auction
    categories they have.

Hyped? It seems very fashionable to slag Ikea off at the moment. I
    don't see any hype.

Quality? Their stuff is cheap, but ime the quality is always above
what the price would lead you to expect.

Taste-free? Well, taste is, er, a question of taste. And criticising
other people's sits poorly with a fan of prog rock.

Their assembly instructions are the worlds worst! 2 pictures, one with
everything laid out the other with it all together an no ideas how to
get from one to the other. I'll never forgive them that wasted Sunday
taking apart the cabinet with 2 shelves identical save a tiny
insignificant hole, which I'd got the wrong way around. Unpicking tongue
and groove without splitting it is a git of a job (IMHO).

I think their stuff is generally okay though.

    Or.....you could be a thick **** :)

Seriously, I put together a whole bunch of units with no trouble at
    all 6 weeks ago.

  18. Neither did the people who caused that new Ikea place to be closed for
    a week or two..
I didn't realise that quality is a ratio with price.
Is that a bite? I do declare it is!

I don't see how that qualifies as "hype". Having enormous discounts
for a store opening is bound to generate a crowd. Sure, it made the
news, but that was after the event.
    You're a bit stupid then.
If you like. How's that working out for you?
