Quick and probably stupid question. How long does it take for a Tom Tom Rider bluetooth headset to charge up? Presumably a new one is utterly dead, unlike the Tom Tom unit itself. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
Thanks a lot. The instructions give no clue that I can find , only 2 hours for the main unit. It will be visual instruments approach only for a while then.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: About two hours and no, it's not totally dead.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, belched forth and ejected the following: Wait 'till the red light goes out, you mong.
In communiqué <>, Whinging What red light would that be then? This confirms my suspicions that there is something up with mine. Red light on the charger? Red light on the bluetooth unit? No sign of either, although the mains charger does get warm. The car kit charger green light comes on but after 24-hours of pretty much constant 'charging' no sign of life (or a red light when charging'). Halfrauds have sold me a duff one it seems (Tom Tom Rider with free car mounting kit deal and I was in a hurry). -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: You won't get a red light on the BT headset if it is charged and it takes a *long* time for it to use enough power to accept another charge. Have you used the headset? Does it work? You could take it back to Halfords but I'd see if it worked first. Leave the headset switched on overnight and it should then accept a charge in the morning. Mine does anyway..
In communiqué <>, Whinging Won't come on at all, even for the Halfraud's 'techie'. Halfrauds conveniently had sold the last Tom Tom rider by the time I returned this morning. TBF they would have swapped the headset immediately if not. More stock in on Wednesday they say and meantime I shall try Tom Tom as I don't really mind waiting for them to swap mine by post in a jiffy bag. The display is so easy to follow ,in a car at least, that the headset is not essential, and in any case I haven't even started to look at how the unit will fit on the tart. Having said that, I am v. impressed with it. Inordinately useful in finding the Formula 1 hotel on Friday night and an out of the way bike dealer yesterday, as well as pointing a Ruskie in the right direction. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: You do have to hold the on/off for an awfully long time, something like at least 10 seconds. Mmm. I've tried finding something else for the car, I didn't like wearing that earbud. I tried all sorts of BT handsfree kits and nothing worked so resorted to cutting the bud off and fixing a 1watt speaker on the end. Works a treat, if a little quiet. <Nods> I'm in the process of downloading the latest Western Europe maps as we speak.
In communiqué <>, Whinging I did think at first that it was just me not waiting long enough, but Halfrauds tested it this morning. I thought of mini-speakers from Poundland, or a nifty little tiny amplified speaker (also with built in microphone or external input) I got from Tandys years ago. That would need a AAA diet though. Do report back. I will be wanting to do that. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: It sounds like it's knackered then. An amplified speaker would be good. The amplifier built into the headset isn't man enough to power an external speaker with any kind of usable volume. At the moment it's very slow. It's been downloading for the last two hours and there's <checks> 143 minutes to go. If you want to download everything that comes with the upgrade it's a 965MB download so you'll obviously need a 1GB card at the very least.
I take it this is from the TomTom site? Even though mine's only 6 months old, the maps is apparently already out of date and there doesn't seem to be an upgrade for the UK only which I have, just the full European version, and I have to pay for it. Curses.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, GungaDan belched forth and ejected the following: I was a trifle miffed about this, too but having thought about it, full WE maps will be useful as I'll be doing France next year as well as (hopefully) other jaunts on the continent and as it comes with speed cameras and traffic, jobs a goodun. I'm not sure if my maps were at all out of date. I come from a position of knowing bugger all about maps and who makes them but apparently Navteq who do the Rider mapping have better maps than TeleAtlas who do the other TT maps. I had NT maps on my Rider but it's no alleged I have TA maps. All I can tell you is that TA didn't have a stretch of road in East Sussex last week and my NT map did but now the new WE maps are installed and ready to go, I'll have to see if there's an improvement. There were several roundabouts missing on my travels and at some T- Junctions it didn't know the road had ended which resulted in a gamble of right way/turn round.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, GungaDan belched forth and ejected the following: Bad form but yes, it was from the TomTom site. 79 Euros
In communiqué <>, Whinging If I had the necessary SD card reader on my PC I could answer this easily, but is the standard card you get with a TTR big enough? BTW, headset on its way to Tom Tom in cloggie land via UPS. Surprisingly efficient web based returns system (so far). Total cost a used jiffy bag a bit of clear tape and a quick phone call to UPS. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: http://www.crucial.com/uk Get a 1 gig SD card from these. 12 quid and I got two days later with their free delivery[1] I never had to send anything back but a handlebar mount broke, I took it to a Halfords I didn't buy it from and they replaced it then and there without question. [1] I've bought RAM from them before and been nothing but impressed with their quality of product and service[2] [2] Damn, I think I'm going to buy a gig of RAM for this laptop now, too.
In communiqué <>, Whinging I have even considered buying the pre-loaded SD card rather than a download. BTW, you seem somewhat cross this evening. Thanks! -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
I'm tempted to upgrade while the 20% offer is on and have vague theoretical plans to venture into Europe at some point. Let us now how you get on then.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Pete Fisher belched forth and ejected the following: It's an extra few quid for the SD card or DVD but whatever floats your boat. I'm never cross )
