  1. Messing around with bikes *all day* as The Doctor has gone to see her
Mum. First off was Kempton Park jumble. A bit disappointing now as
they've turned it into more of a market, and there are more stands
selling cheap tools and the like than I've ever seen. Drooled over a
Laverda SF2. Bought a perfect set of left-hand switchgear for Jamie's
DT50MX (the indicator switch on his is a bit dicky) for a fiver.

Came back via Worcester Park, there to have a look at a Suzuki 400
Katana that Timo's thinking of buying. Very nice. Lovely bike.

Call in at my local dealer, to collect a new pair of tyres for the DT50,
blag a cup of tea, chew the fat.

Home to fit the tyres, and neighbour turns up on a brand new Honda 125
Innova (sort of a C90 on steroids) that he's just bought. Nice if you
    like that sort of thing.

Neighbour zooms off on his Fireblade (yes, he has one of these as well).

Fit switchgear. Apocalyptic rumble from the street means down tools, and
investigate. It's neighbour again. He's just p/exed his Blade for an
immaculate and tricked up Honda SP-1 and is grinning like a loon.

Feel jealous, kick cat, clear tools away, open bottle.

Is that the bloke across the street?

  3. That's him.

    He owns an original GL1000 Wing, a 1500 Valkyrie, the SP1, a Honda 250
Super Dream and the Innova. Doesn't own a car.

  4. I assume, based on ukrm folklore about Hondas, that he is also the most
boring person on the planet and you fall asleep if you are within 5
    yards of him?

So why does he not subscribe to ukrm?

I would suspect because he has something resembling a life and doesn't
feel the need to shout into the wind?

  8. Well that's one answer. The other one is how do we know he isn't lurking
as a lot of people seem to do.

It would be nice to calculate the number of UKRM lurkers there are. I
wonder if anyone has any access to any ISP NNTP logs just to see how
many rummages there are from non-posters. It wouldn't be a true
figure as there are other web-based reposter things
    (motorcyclenewsgroups, etc).

Perhaps I'm being a bit deep today.

Perhaps you need to do a bit of research into the distributed system
that is Usenet. You'd need the logs of _every_ newsserver around the
world that carries ukrm in order to even attempt to get a figure.

Which is why I suggested just one ISPs logs.

Which would tell you absolutely nothing.

Well would it? If you knew the total numbers reading from the server
and trawled to find the Posters using said server, you would know the
numbers were about right for that server. Three or four more servers
and your statistics would be "accurate" enough to model the whole
universe and post the results as fact in learned scientific journals or
to use in an advertising campaign.

Although at the end of the day BGN should shelve his ego for a bit and
remember that lurkers don't have opinions.
