Today I discovered just how far my Zed can lean on bends.

    Then Champ gave it back.

Ride to work tomorrow and park with the back tyre on show.

Curses! You saw through my plan!

Of course I'll have to ride very slooowly now [1] to make the tyre last
    as long as possible.

    heh.

I was only trying to encourage you to open the throttle on 'busa.

The Versys needs new hero blobs, or rearsets.

Heheh. In a similar vein, I found out how far an African Twin can lean
with me as a passenger today. Very impressed I was. I´ll post a bit
more about it when I get back from Spain, including the route taken.

I thought the 20% throttle or whatever I was giving 'busa was sufficient
    to indicate the bikes potential.

Overtaking was effortless though I failed to fight my instinct to knock
it down through the box and get the revs up prior to overtakes (too many
years on an LC I suspect). Brakes are very good (need to be really), but
it does feel like a big old bus which is a bit odd as it steers very
rapidly indeed. To my mind it needs less persuasion to turn and hold a
    line than the Zed.

So, I'll put my lack of rapidity down to the fact that it feels a bit
big and would take some getting used to, rather than a complete lack of
skill or that I'm a bit of a scaredy cat.

Or it could be, as I said to Elly earlier, that the reason you went past
on the Zed and fucked off into the distance is that the Zed's actually
the quicker bike of the two. Possibly.

Key thing for me is that the short ride was enough to convince me that I
don't want a busa. Just not comfy or practical enough, and I know I'll
not be able to resist reminding myself what happens above 8K every time
I take it out. So I'll stop watching them on eBay :-(

I've re-educated myself to leave it at least one gear, if not two,
higher than I normally would. It just has so much grunt, and if you
end up in a gear too low for a corner, it makes things worse.

I disagree about the brakes, mind. I think they're the weak point of
the bike. They are the six-pot Tokicos, which I know from experience
    (ZX7R) don't age too well.
S'odd - I find it very comfortable, and I hardly ever need to go over
8k. 7.5k in top is 150mph, after all!

OK, they're more effective than the 2-pot sliding calipers on the Zed.
Need and want are two different things, surely.

Somebody mentioned this the other day.

    Must be a design fault.

Bandit 1200 Nissin calipers are a direct replacement for the Tokico 6
pots, as my housemate and I found out last week when we fitted some to
his ZX7R. I'd rather use the Nissins than any Tokico calipers as Nissin
anodise the entire body to stop corrosion, and it works. You'll find
Triumph use the same model Nissin caliper as the Bandit on many of
their bikes prior to the models with radial brakes fitted.

Another direct replacement option, if you can lay your hands on a set,
are the gold coloured 6 pot Nissins they fitted to the Special Edition
Daytona 1200. They are absolutely stonking brakes for a standard
    fitment.

I think it's partly due to it being slightly lowered and me pushing it
too hard. It's not a sports bike, I shouldn't treat it like one.

I've got a spare set lying around in the garage, if you want to make me
an offer before they go on eBay...

Ta, but I'd want to change then for something completely different (a
la Lozzo's post) rather than more of the same. If I ever strip and
rebuild another set of those six-potters I might just go postal...

Oh, absolutely. Although I got to be fairly practised at it, so it
    didn't take too long.

The set that were on the 9R when I sold it were better than I'd ever had
in the rest of the life of the bike, especially when combined with the
braided hoses that I liberated from AndrewR's 6R before he could flog
    them on eBay.

    But I'm definitely looking forward to have a garage full of Brembos;
they're just so much nicer to work on.

Weeeeelll - I would maintain that they are/were pretty bloody good
when knew, but get a little corrosion in them and they degrade quite
    markedly.
No, when I'm at my main office, everything's hunky-dory. Today I was
at another site, with a draconian policy.

It works ok with the 4 pots and Nissin 6 pots, but has a job coping
    with Tokico 6 pots.

I'm going to have to have a go on something with really sorted brakes,
'cos the Tokico 6 pots on my B12 haul the weight down in what is (to
me) bloody quick time, stoppies no problem. Shows my inexperience I
    guess.
