I avoid all those discussions by stating quite early on that I've
never seen any of Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other sci-fi.

the problem is, I do quite like some SF (though I much prefer reading
    it to watching it).

    that page intimates as much.

Anyway, nothing to do with that, but just seen this:

My doc at Leicester uni medical centre was Dr Khunti

And I had a friend there who was going out with a PhD student called
Tyrone Kidney...he swore he was going to change his name before handing
    in his thesis.

I avoid those discussions by never going to the pub with work
colleagues. Some of them have been known to frequent a trek-themed
    bar somewhere near Redhill.

I think "Dick Kuntz" is better, though.
Speaking of kidneys, I saw "Dirty Pretty Things" on DVD yesterday -
    worth a watch.

I quite enjoy going to work with some of my cow-orkers - some of them
on the other hand, I cross the road in order to avoid having to talk
    to them.

The bods I tend to lunch with are the ones who live miles away and/or
have kids, so they're never about in the evening. I've almost got them
trained to not waffle on about their fucking kids all the time, though.

Thta's pretty much my take. Some I cross the office to avoid.

  13. AOL. Seating arrangements in the pub get a bit musical
chairs, as there seems to be a commonly disliked person...

there's one particular person who I've nearly come close to physically
assaulting on more than one occasion[1].

[1] two things have stopped this happening: 1) I'm not a violent
person, and 2) I know I'd kick the crap out of the little ****.

  15. I expected 2) to be "he's bloody big"...

Does he drive a bmw by any chance?

    nah - scrawny placement student.
he drives me up the fucking walls.

He's full of all this "I'm largin' it, man, innit", "out at da
weekend, clubbing with me ho" etc. etc., wears a big gold chain over
his shirt and tie, and big sovereign rings on most fingers.

He's a speccy, spotty, skinny white guy, who drinks (and I swear I'm
not making this up) Malibu and pineapple.

  17. Complete arsehole.

Even if you do lamp him and get called up for
GBH, you'd be able to claim "justifable action".
    No jury would convict.

yeah, but it would go against the whole "respect in the workplace"[1]
ethos crap that we've got here at the moment.

[1] apparently, my name's "gone on the list" that will be presented to
the management committee, because I've re-arranged[2] the session of
this that I'm to go on more than once.
[2] it would appear that attendance at these things is more important
    than my primary projects
