I like to harbor the notion that I've never been a geek. Potentially,
the 5 PC LAN I have at home belies this, but I think these days that
sort of thing is almost socially acceptible.
    clearly.

I thought it was a sock puppet.

    You mean it isn't?

why, does she read ukrm. For the record:

I'm pretty sure it wasn't me - I think the only time I've met her was
in the Hogshead on Lisle Street, and I think I was my usual charming
    self on that occasion.

I've been referred to in the past by colleagues as the only
developer they've met that actually dislikes computers :eek:/

FWIW, I think if you go home and spend you evenings and weekends
'tweaking' your home LAN then you're definitely in geek
    territory.

Actually, having a 5 PC LAN probably puts you there anyway.

I don't spend any time tweaking the LAN, as it's working fine. I still
can't get this cunting WAP to work, though, so I think its time to
send it back and get another.
    well, one's Angie's - one's the sprogs, one's mine...err, and one is a
database server and one is an application server.

    Anyway, I can't be a geek - I've pretty much continuously had a steady
girlfriend since I was 16 years old.

You are definitely not alone here!
I set up a wireless LAN, but the filesharing doesn't work [1] so I'm happy
that I'm slowly coming out of geekness.

This and the fact that I can't programme my VCR.

    [1] I don't need it to work.

When I got my WAP phone, the t-mobile site had all the setup stuff on it
but I still had to apply for a password that they insisted had to be
posted to me. It does work now but is shite, so I really don't bother.
I've just got a laptop and a desktop connected wirelessly. The desktop
sits there hosting my web site and I use it for digital photo processing.
Everything else gets done on the laptop.
Ah, well, in that case, er, um...

Urmm, what does having a VMS cluster[1] under my desk at home mean to my
    geek rating?

[1] Linked to a wireless LAN...

Me too. I've only met her once, but she seemed quite nice. she was
in bed, tho, so, not a conclusive assessment.

Darsy was talking about wireless networking, not WAP phones.
