LOL... Yup.. I prefer a clean and uncluttered look.. I have stripped decals
and emblems off all the bikes I've ever owned..

    My comments
hmmm... You shouldn't go that far.. Maybe not..
Quite a few of those, including me.. could be riding whatever motorcycle
    they wanted to ride.. LOL..
Winter time... Jeans, boots.. chaps, vest and jacket.. All leather... hmmm..
    gloves ..
Surprising how many people, think any cruiser style motorcycle is nothing
more than a Harley lookalike.. Last I heard.. all the manufacturers are
building cruisers.. I rode dressers/tourers for a lotta years and miles.. I
don't want to contend with the weight, anymore.. Now I ride a cruiser.. I've
always believed that when Harley built the Heritage Classic.. it was the
best looking motorcycle on the road... My Vulcan is detailed like the
Heritage, because I like the look.. Anyone who mistakes that Vulcan for a
Harley, doesn't know what he's looking at, anyway..

So far the conversation has been about Shadows in general and my
comments about Shadows being Harley like was based on the newer
Shadows. (Yes, I know that this question was aimed at Albert) AFAIK no
one has mentioned a particular year till now. As I mentioned in
another message the older Shadows had their own identity but the
newest versions are a lot more Harley like and I am not the only one
with that opinion. Even the links I gave before mention that. But I do
agree with you that the model you mentioned (the 1986 version) does
not look like a Harley and it was one of the last original Shadows.
The first link below shows a picture of a 1986 model. Unfortunately
Honda got stupidafter that and by the 1988 model (see pic at the
second link) the Shadow had morphed in to more of a Harley copy.

As I said before (I know, you didn't ask me <g>) the early Shadows
were excellent looking bikes as they had their own style. But the
current Shadows are nothing but a Harley copy. Since I had not seen
anyone mention a particular year Shadow my comments in this thread
    were about Shadows in general.

Yeah.. I know.. The '86 1100 was more or less a prototype.. From what I
understand, aftermarket never tooled up to manufacture accessories for the
bike, since it would only be in production for a couple of years.. The power
plant could very well be the strongest V-Twin that anyone has ever put on a
production motorcycle.. The bike looks good and it seems to be virtually
    indestructible..

The downside is .. no windshield.. no case guards, highway pegs.. bags or
additional lighting.. You rode it the way it came out of the crate.. Almost
everything that Brian has installed on his Shadow, has been something we
invented .. even the one inch handlebars with more rise to them.. Signal
lights had to be relocated to the handlebars, so the windshield, which was
fabricated for a Yamaha, would work.. The end result is a motorcycle that is
one of a kind .. There's just not many of them on the road, and in that
    condition..

Sorry to be a disappointment, Wakko, lol. It's stopped raining, the
quality of my posts drops of dramaticlly when I can ride my bike, lol.
They're forcasting rain again in a few days, I'll be sure to try harder next
    time.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Okay, time to plead ignorance again. What shouldn't I go that far
    about?
Nothing wrong with that either. You have the right to ride whatever
you want. My comment was aimed at those that select a Harley copy
because that is what it is and then try to hide the fact that it is
not a real Harley. Even in that case there is nothing wrong with it
but I just think it's hilarious.

The early cruisers had their own look and I actually liked the look of
them better then I did a Harley. Back then a metric cruiser was a
metric cruiser and a Harley was a Harley. Why the Japanese motorcycle
manufacturers had to change that and make most of them more like
Harleys I don't know. I also understand that not all new cruisers look
like Harleys as there are still a few models that retain their own
looks. But a lot of bikes in the cruiser arena are nothing but a
Harley copy and there is nothing wrong with calling it such. Not
everyone wants a Harley or the extra maintenance that comes with it so
I don't blame them for going with a copy. As you mention you liked the
looks of a Heritage Classic but for some reason you didn't want an
original and felt better off with what you thought was a suitable
substitute of it in the form of a Vulcan. Nothing wrong with that as
you are open about it being a Vulcan and not something else. But as
you said yourself the main reason you bought it was because it is
"detailed like the Heritage". So if you think it looks somewhat like a
Harley why is it a "mistake" for someone else to think the same way?

What, it has one inch handlebars? I thought Brian said it had 7/8 inch
bars. One inch bars are a Harley feature. So it IS a Harley copy. I
    knew it. <sfsf>

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

Sounds like one sweet ride. Got any pics of it? I'll trade a low
milage Silverwing for it and even deliver the bike in the trade. <g>

No, you didn't say he wouldn't understand (at least I didn't read it
that way). You mentioned he did not know anything in regards to what I
was talking about which is why I posted what I did in an attempt to
educate him and anyone else that thought the way he did. He has
acknowledged my comments that not all Shadow riders are Harley
wannabees. As far as why he thinks you guys are such I don't know and
could care less. He's apparently based his opinion on what he has seen
in the past and who am I to say his opinion is wrong? Same thing goes
for your opinion of him being a lost cause. You have your right to
feel that way and I am not going to try to tell you otherwise. If I
thought a lot of people in this group should be written off because I
didn't like their way of thinking I wouldn't waste my time posting
    replies. <g>

My neanderthal-like sloping forehead precludes my wearing of doo-rags.

Besides, there was this dood wearing a doo-rag pulling a trailer of bikes on
the way to Daytona this year that kinda put me off.

    p.s. "snip" is your friend.

The motorcycle came with the OEM handlebars ..As the other accessories were
invented and modified to fit the bike, it became necessary to install about
three additional inch rise on the bars.. Incidentally, all the switches and
hydraulics were changed, too.. Yup.. the handlebars came from Strokers, in

I plan on using Harley handlebar controls on the old BMW I'm
rebuilding. The downside is the bar clamps are made for 3/4 inch bars
(22mm) but the control assemblies are made for 1 inch diameter bars. I
found a place that will make me a set of bars in 1 inch tubing but
with a 3/4 inch base for the clamps. But I'm afraid I might get called
I hear they throw a good party.

I bought the motorcycle out of the crate and there was no detailing.. I
detailed that motorcycle over a period of time .. Sitting on the floor of
that dealership, it looked like just another metric bike.. Since I like the
detailing of the Heritage so much, it evolved into that look..It is still a
metric cruiser and anyone who knows motorcycles will recognize it
    immediately..

So if you think it looks somewhat like a
I don't think it looks like a Harley.. It is detailed like a Heritage..
    that's all..

Rick Fairless does know how to run a motorcycle store.. Parts, accessories
and motorcycles in the big one.. Greasy hamburghers and cold beer, right
across the alley.. One helluva nice shop and assembly plant.. Strokers has
made some radical changes since Rick started building, but I like his
joint.. Been hanging out there, now and then.. for a lotta years.. Come take
    a look some time..
