I wear a scarf so when the bugs go squish they don't hurt. Stones and
stuff: I've been hit by them, it's rare, stings but doesn't mark.

Rain and hail - that fucking stings. Hence I have a neoprene mask for
    winter.

  2. It's one of the things that scares me the most: I wear a flip-front, and
it's open virtually all the time when I'm within the city limits. And I am
shit-scared that I'll take a pebble in the eye of something. :-(

    genuine_froggie fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
When I used a flip front I'd wear plastic lensed sunglasses on the times
I rode with the front up.

I got told off by north Wales trafpol that riding with the front up of a
    BMW System helmet was illegal.

Anyone here confirm or comment on that "advice"?

    Bit hyprocritical that.
I think it's to do with the BSI/EU mark and whether or not the helmet
conforms with the flip down or up.
If it's passed with it down, then in theory it could be illegal to ride with
    the flip up.

But considering it's North Wales my suspicions lie elsewhere :)

    dwb fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
Why? 'Cos of them using System lids? (ooo and yes I've seen them riding
    with the front up too!)
That's why I did'nt argue with him, in case that was the situation.
Brunstroms boys just being heavy handed?

An age old response to this type of comment, but have you tried a fog
city insert? I can't say they prevent _all_ mising, as I still have to
lift the visor open a small bit when stationary or moving slowly, but
its always clear on the move.

I had a foggy mask, instead, in a previous lid, which also worked well,
but it wouldn't fit right in the HJC I have now.

The front is always down on mine when I am on the bike, it is the visors
what do the flipping. Mind you the reason I use a front lifter is for
those moments only when I am going to be off the bike for a few seconds,
like buying petrol and paying toll fees and stuff.

I got my first full face helmet 30 years ago so I could look really cool
on my 250 and a few weeks later went sideways into the back of a lorry.
The bent body of the back of the lorry was visible in a painted scar
which ran right over the cracked chin piece. Never felt the need to
    ride open faced again.

  14. if the two statements above are co-joined, then yes, the plod were right
    - assuming your plastic lensed sunglasses didn't conform to the BS/E
standards for protective eyewear on a motorcycle.

Thanks Bear, sounds like that was the question I should have asked in
the first place. I'll order a black[1] one then.

Spot on correct. By the way, even if you meant the trading standards
guy arrested the other guy, it could have been a citizens arrest, so
you still wouldn't have been wrong.

    Doesnotcompute fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
He made no comment about the sunglass's his criticism was merely on the
action of riding with the "front up" as it were.

Have I missed summat' since when has there been a requirement for
    "approved" sunglasses?
