Tinted visor questions

I found a lid that fitted very nicely today so I bought it. Now it's
the beginning of summer soon and I want a tinted visor for it.

    So the questions are:

what's actually legal and does it really matter?

What does Iridium actually mean and how does it differ from mirror?

Suggestions on where to purchase would be nice also. I've found a
couple of places from googling but none of them seem to offer much info
about their visors. I want something that still meets eye-protection
safety standards even if the tint is ilegal.

http://www.racevisors.co.uk stock genuine tinted / iridium visors, so
I'd assume they're all made to the same safety standard as road legal
visors even if they're illegally tinted, IYSWIM.

(I've not yet ordered from them, but they're one of the few places I've
found a decent selection of Roof tinted visors)

That's a weird fetish site. Some guy taking his own photo lots of times
    using different visors as mirrors.

    Thanks, BTW.

No, but I know a helmet company rep[1] from the north who got nicked by
Trading Standards for selling them to dealers on the side. He was caught
red-handed taking cash and getting them from the boot of his car
apparently. I'm told the Trading Standards guys who nicked him were at
the shop on a different matter when they discovered this going on and
    acted immediately.

He got a massive fine for a TS offence, and then the VAT man got a bit
interested as VAT is payable on illegal visors. That's why all our dark
tint, mirror and irridium visors are only sold to thevisorshop.com , so
they can supply them from Norn Iron and stay within TS law.

    [1] Not from our company.

    Does 'nicked' automatically mean 'arrested'[1]?

[1] though I Imagine being nicked and being stopped might go hand in hand.

  7. Um ... well, I thought it did, yes. A quick glance at the dictionary shows
'nicked' as having only one sense as a verb that _doesn't_ mean to steal or
to inflict a small cut .. and that sense is 'to arrest'.

Please point out where I mention arrest in my post. I must be as stupid
as you think I am, because I can't see it anywhere.

  9. See my other response in this thread. **** me, did everyone get out the
wrong side of bed this morning ? The newsgroup loser throws a hissy fit,
and everyone else is in a bad mood ? I'm off for some kip, anyway.

It's less gay than your multi-coloured leathers :)

No. I got a few warnings, but we had the Snell standards loophole to get
out of it. I used to say the simple "See you in court. I can recite
chapter and verse on this one if needed" with a smile if a copper got
    narky about it.

Funny, because all my life [1] I've used 'nicked' to mean caught out, or
    similar.

Double checking my dictionary [2] says 'caught or arrested'

    By a better one.

[1] well, since gaining the power of speech
[2] at this time of night!!!

When you get nicked for speeding at the roadside, or by a camera you
    don't get arrested.

You don't get arrested for speeding. You get arrested for dangerous
driving if they want to pin that on you. I may be wrong, but SWK will
probably correct me or back me up soon.

I'll believe you, after all, it is purported that you have half a clue...

By the way: probably won't make any difference at all (infact it
certainly won't arrangements wise) but I'm hoping to make it up to BOSM
again, but as last time, can only stay till tea time..

Some years ago I was pulled for a "road safety check", basically a
lecture on born agains and a Summer afternoons breathalyser, the M/C plod
there commented about my Baruffaldi goggles with green shades [1]:

"Very nice goggles, Sir, I take it they meet the appropriate standards?"
    "I'm sure they do."
"That's good, now about this numberplate..."

That was more or less it and we had a pleasant chat about Guzzis. Sussex
police had them so most M/C police will chat affectionately about T3s or
G5 Spadas. Well, two that have stopped me in Sussex have.

[1] The helmet wasn't legal either:

They were nice goggles but prone to misting in the wet

A mate was stopped with a gold visor for something (forget what),
he even had a clear visor strapped in a specially made pouch
round his waist. Cop never mentioned the visor.
