    I don't think so.
My local specialist has quoted £1000 for a complete brake refurb front
and rear. I expect many cars will set you back the same money.

Heh I'm not hopeful! Outside London I expect the number of people who
want and can have a 911 hasn't changed much at all

I expect it's the mid market car sector that's in for an utter kicking.
The bottom end must be licking it's lips though.

The top end of society are presumably fattening up nicely at propert
auctions around the country <stares at Krusty>

Mind, maybe "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen"
    wasn't very subtle.

Some are without a doubt, but they've slowed right down too. Only
around 10% of the lots sold at the last one I went to.
I wish, I haven't got a pot to piss in after the money I've spent on
deposits & renovation costs since Xmas. And even if I could raise the
cash for a deposit on another place, the BTL lenders are taking the
piss with arrangement fees & rental income valuations at the moment.

Well, he's got it back and is heading for Blighty. Some vital circlip
came off, apparently. Cost was 200 euros for the job, which strikes me
    as not bad at all.

Of course, it's only the first bill of many, as I pointed out to him.

  10. That's because I didn't get your SMS, only TOG's and Bear's.

  11. It actually does have full service history (Porsche and specialist one),
but the invoices for the early services are missing.

  12. See other message. Plus, I bought it after getting it inspected by
a proper expert - even I am not daft enough to buy one without expert
    opinion.

  13. They eat front wheel bearing for breakfast, especially when they haven't
been driven for a while and this one has had periods where it was doing
    less than 1k/year.
You don't know much about classic 911 prices then I would suggest
:). You can pick up Targas for 6k-7k but they are *very* ropey. Top of
the range for a classic 3.2 Targa is still 15-16k with not much movement
    downwards.
No, for that kind of money I could have had a later one which tends to
    produce even bigger bills.

  14. Difference being that 944 S2 convertibles were worth about 8k-9k a year
ago, whereas 911s like mine were roughly 12k-13k back then. 944s and
968s have been in freefall pricewise since then.

  15. *ding*. Fortunately the PO has invested in quite a bit of TLC already.
.... which is why I haven't bought one until now. And the specialist(s)
presumably have pound signs in their eyes already.
Unless you want a classic car that's still fast enough for modern
traffic, in which case a late 3.2 will do nicely. Which is why I bought
    one.

But that would fit your MO perfectly ;-)

Anyway, it got you back and without plenty expensiveness (which came
as a surprise to me, actually, as I always thought any Porsche garage
automatically started the bills at £500)

Ah, bit of a design fault there then. Presumably they're a bit too open
to the crud off the road/elements?

Cool, I might wait a little longer & break the credit card out then. I
never consider depreciation when buying toys, which is probably a
mistake, but if I want something I want it regardless.

He didn't say the expert advised buying it.
