I've taken half the tools and the manuals to where the bikes are...

You've pretty much described how brawls start.

[guffaw] Is this week "ludicrous conclusions" week?
For some bizarre reason you seem to think that manually picking and choosing
which posts to read (and which to skip) is OK but letting the newsreader do
    it for you is evil?!!
Of COURSE I omit the posts I have no wish to read; Of COURSE I tried to
encourage others to take this simple step (and stop all the moronic and
repeated "your an idiot" and "I don't know why I replying to this" and
beyond-moronic "you're just a TROLL!!!" posts that this ng used to be full
of when it was alive. (In fact I still shake my head in disbelief when I see
fairly normal and intelligent-seeming people get made such public fools of.)
Why on earth you'd think I give the tiniest care about the posts (or
posters) I DON'T see totally eludes me though. (1)(2)
[shrug] I didn't read them and I didn't block them either. My total
perticipation in aus.moto these days is a quick skim every few days and the
occasional reply when I'm bored or I see something that looks interesting.
The rest just sits there until it expires. (and it's not like the volume is
gonna' run me out of diskspace any time soon)
[shrug again] The previous post, the current post, the next post.
Yep... so what alse is new; is the sky blue too?
You said it yourself. (I haven't really noticed any particular fuckheads
since Kev and Theo drove me off so if you're currently being a fuckhead
you'll have to pardon me 'cause I've missed it.)

As for the "continuous 10 year decline"; I say horseshit! The total posts
may have declined at a steady rate but the motorcycle-content to no-content
ratio has change dramatically in the last year or three.
    I have, I did.
    As I said; you won.

    (1) a footnote; oh goody I love a footnote!
    (2) I did actually care about Gerry. I really hoped he might calm-down and
get back to "normal" if we just limited the stimulus that was sending him
    into overload.

  13. 'What Are We All Riding These Days' generated over 20 direct responses,
most within 24 hours, plus some commentary + Deevo's story of
misfortune. Based on that, I'd say Aus.Motorcycles still has a lot of
life in it. Dying, yes, like all of Usenet; dead, no.

  14. Disagree. When ausmoto started the internets were a new thing for most
people and there were only a few places that people could focus. 15
years later and there are so many discussion forums that the focus
that used to be there is lost.

I see the same thing happening in my industry (TV) and the music
    industry.

ausmoto is dying. Nothing to do with Clem or George or anyone else.
It's just the nature of an ever-expanding media delivery system.

I've seen a usenet group called comp.graphics.lightwave die
completely. It was intensely active in the 90s and early 2000s. And a
main provider of information for little old me in Tasmania to get help
and provide help on that 3D software.

    Times they are a changing.

A couple of years ago there was only one bmw forum available
now there at least a dozen each with many subsections
this style or posting being dropped from so many cheap isp now brings
about a dirth of knowledge and hence the propagation of web based
alternatives to the detriment of the interweb old stylers

Guess that makes us old farts but of course not of the calibre or rather
lack of it of hatz and jewwy

Mmm... got into one FB group that really interests me and the next thing
you know, someone has made me its Administrator. Say what? So .... now
we'll find out how long this particualr group can continue (hopefully some
considerable time) with an administrator who still contributes but does
*no* administratoring because he wouldn't have the faintest idea how to!
