Time to put in a planning application for a garage extension, methinks

  2. A good 500 Four is worth decent money. The unloved one is the 550, which
is silly, as it's actually the best bet out of the SOHC 400, 500, 550
    and 750 fours.

If a nice clean 550 four is worth, say, £1000, then the equivalent 400
    Four is worth 50% more.

    Well...

First, I don't really know how good it is until I see it. That said,
    the bloke sounds genuine.

Second, ending your auction in midday on a sunny spring sunday is a
rather bad thing to do from an ebay perspective, plus the guy is a
0-rated seller. I'm not too bothered about that because if it turns out
that the bike is howling at the moon in clear nights, all I've lost is
    the trainfare.

Nevertheless I am surprised that I was the only bidder - after
consultation with TOG he reckons that if it is as good as it appears to
be in the ad[1] it would be worth a tad more.

I think if you play it right, your 500/4 should make fairly similar
money if it's in nice enough condition.

[1] Misapplied sidepanel transfers, for starters. Trust TOG to spot
    that.

I only do this to prop up the values of old BMWs.
