Time to boycot Tesco Express

I have just pulled into my local Tesco Express in the cage for some
fuel, posted on the pump was a notice discriminating against bike
riders. Essentially it says that bike/scooter/moped riders etc must
not only remove their helmets but also pay for their fuel in advance!

Don't know about others but I use my tripometer as a fuel guage, fill
up the tank, push the trip to zero and refuel between 150 - 170 miles.
If I have to pay first then its possible; indeed what with being a
clumsy sod, probable, I will either pay for too little fuel to get a
full tank, or too much so I'll have to put the extra in a pocket or
    something.

The lady at the till was very understanding of my position as I asked
her to confirm the notice and then proceeded to tell her that I shall
boycot them in future. It was she who told me that this is to be, or
is already a nationwide policy. She was also pissed off as she has
been the subject of verbal abuse from those affected, unfair cos she
    is only the messenger.

Tesco's can go **** themselves, only bought their fuel as I would be
pushing the car otherwise, ?I wonder if Teco Express's partner, Esso
    are aware?

Just so you know, if you pay too much, they do actually give you change
    back.

US has done this on all vehicles for years.

Not so bad then, but still **** them for targeting us with a
    preference for two wheels.

  10. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Brian
Pull the pump nozzle from its holster, and wait for them to switch the
    pump on.

If they refuse to do so, drop the nozzle on the floor, and go somewhere
    else.

Obtain bike with trailer filled with ten 20L canisters. Pull up at the
first pump, blocking the way past. Pay the mimimum, using American
express (most expensive card to process). Repeat until 200L of fuel is
obtained. Don't forget to put on balaclava and helmet and take them
off each time. Park outside with a sign selling the petrol 1p cheaper
per liter. Repeat until bored, you have had your money's worh from 2
quid a round or you have the cash you wanted to withdraw on the amex
card cheaper than withdrawing it from a cash machine (this is the bit
that gets me...). Post the video of the reaction of the staff on
    YouTube after getting advertsing sponsorship.

    What's the problem again?

Yeah, but the US petroleum industry is like organised crime gone bad. Why
should I do business with an outfit that treats me like a crim?

No, not really. It's only SOP at the more pikey-type areas where they're
afraid the scrotes will drive off without paying. Most places that aren't
total shitholes, you go up to the pump, flip up the handle, and the
attendant turns on the pump for you. A few stations do require pre-payment
on some of their pumps that have quick escape routes to the street, at some
stations all the pumps are prepay after dark, etc.

Don't you have pay-at-the-pump? It's more or less universal here, you
swipe your credit card[1], pump fuel, get a receipt, ride away. No human
involved. No hassles with having to take off your helmet if you don't
want to. Very few stations don't have it, the only times I ever fill
up at a place where they don't have PATP is when I'm running on fumes
or the next station is many miles away.

[1] Or wave your RFID based SpeedPass at the pump.

We do here at Newmarket Tesco on two of the pumps. Very handy, except
when the person in front goes to pay at the counter and you have to
    wait for them.

    Indeed.

Although I nearly fell off the Hardley when I read a note at a petrol
station that they didn't require prepayment. That'd be one out of
god-knows-how-many stations that I've used over there.

It's a blommin' pain in the arse if you don't have a US credit or debit
card - with those you just pay at the pump.

    Some stations do.

Main annoyance I found with the US ones is that they haven't twigged
yet that people may have cards that aren't issued in the US, so I get
to check out if the cashier's pretty or not.
