I use an internal unsigned byte counter, which would probably overflow
    after the 7th generation.

Others seem to have fixed that issue ages ago:

But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue
childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?"a 3And
Abram said, "You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my
house is to be my heir." 4But the word of the LORD came to him, "This
man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be
your heir." 5He brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven and
count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then he said to him,
    "So shall your descendants be."

  4. I think a *woooossshhhhh* is in order here..

(Hint: 'Shall' is an question - I think they word you were looking for

  6. Indeed. But they are used in a different fashion - 'shall' is where
permission is being sought, 'may' is not (usually)[2] used where
    permission is being sought.

    As in:

"Shall the fleas of a thousand camels infest your nose"[1] as opposed to
"may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your nose" - one is an
request interrogative and the other is not.
Yes yes.. I was hoping no-one would notice. Curse you! Maybe the fleas
of a thousand camels etc etc!

    Phil.

[1] Putting aside the issue of missing punctuation of course..
    [2] Although it can be.

Not neskessessycelery, old bean. "I shall" is a statement of intent,
with no permission being sought. "I may" is also indicative of
intent, but perhaps allowing of an alternative. We could spin this
merry-go-round all night, you know ... but I have more important
things to attend to, which I shall now go and attend to - if I may.
    Basic pedantry, innit.

Or to put it another way - you need very little pull on the clutch
lever to disengage the clutch. TBH I can't see any playing around with
fluid, reach etc changing that - it'll be a function of the mechanism
at the clutch itself. That means a strip-down at least.

I'd be inclined to live with it until the clutch goes.

OK, so I changed the fluid yesterday (Sunday) - it was so old and full
of crap that it had actually stained the window of the reservoir.

Clutch bite point seems a little better now - thanks to all for your
    suggestions!

As an aside, the guy who had the bike before me had fitted an
aftermarket seat cowl which was not very well designed and has taken
some of the paint off the rear panels. Anyone know of a good paint
repair place in Suffolk or Norfolk?

    Cheers

Let me grow some beard, go to Palestine, walk up a mountain and say
"Bless the mechanically challenged...". Next I would change water into
20W50 mineral oil for the Thunderace which would definitely point to me
as the ultimate 'ace crew Messiah.

I'll ask my teacher of English as a foreign language [1] about "shall"
    and "may"...

[1] She'll be glad not to hear about my four worded latest findings in
    everyday's English coming from UKRM.

Hint: Phil is no correct about their respective usages in this context
    - there was nothing wrong with what you said, although it was (and I
realise this was deliberate) a very archaic usage, whichever you used.
