    So how come mine is showing no signs of rust. 03 K2 so it should be
    showing up by now if there is a problem.
    OTOH, I look after my bikes and spray chainwax on the hidden and
    vulnerable bits to keep the wet at bay as well as polishing the
    visible paintwork.

    Any bike will turn into a ratty heap if neglected.
    To be fair, cheap commuter bikes are probably more prone to neglect
    than expensive boys toys, but that is a problem with the owners, not
    the bikes.
