I'm still trying to trouble shoot my CBR1000F problems. I did the
valve clearances and (despite forgetting to put the crank case
inspection cover back on ) all seems to have gone well with that job.

It still seems the throttle is sticking open all the time. I have
fiddled with the tickover screw again, but it still is not 'right'
Could this be a symptom of having crud in the carbs ? I did spray some
cleaner in there. Maybe a blast down the motorway will help, but it
isn't exactly safe to ride ATM. What causes this ?

You need to determine whether it's actually sticking open (in which
case the revs will not drop *at all*) or whether the revs hang at a
high level, and then gradually descent.

The former means you've got the adjuster hung up, or the cables
    wrongly routed, or something.

The latter means the pilot jets are still clogged, and it will be a
tougher job to cure. As I think I said originally, ultrasound cleaning
is really the only sure way for badle gunged carbs.

which is exactly what I thought; maybe I'm "mechanic" material after
    all.

It's the first place I'd look. Well for that and something as basic as a
trapped/poorly routed pair of cables. My Zed has the "sticky throttle"
symptom when I've had the front cowl off if I don't give the cables a
"tweak" after the cowling goes back on.

Well, you've just made the world rock on its axis, and that's no mean
    feat.

seems to be the latter, but if the pilot jets are blocked then how
could it tick over at all ?
a couple of other people have suggested it could be a sticky float
    valve.

it's very kind of you to take the time to reply. I have already had a
look on Ebay and there are a set there for 50 quid, however they are
not from an FS. I went to town at lunchtime and got an ultrasonic
cleaner ( half price in Maplin, yippee !) , assuming that the jets/
float valves can be taken off one at a time or else they wont fit in
there ! Still it's a nice gadjet to play with unil a cheap set of
    carbs turns up perhaps LOL

    Cheers !

I hope that they are not /that/ bad. I was using the bike quite a lot
on long journies until this summer that never was,
and then I was on the Blackbird all the time. Stupid really, i will
have to get some stabiliser for the bird before it goes the same way.
The cbr is ridable ( just about ) but it isn't right. I am not sure
how easy it's going to be to get the carbs off.. probably means
another day speant playing with motorbikes !
