  2. Exactly. It would depend what rank her father plied from. Assuming they
know who the father is of course.

According to the Daily Mail article linked to up there somewhere:

"The 28 year-old driver was later arrested but *tested negative* for
drink and drugs and was released without charge, pending further
    investigations."

I sent this to the Editor of Mailonline...

"Why have you reported that "It is against the law for children under 13 to
ride them even on private land"?

I can find no other reference to this under UK law.

There appears to be no age restriction as long as it is with the landowners
    permission.

Please provide your reference source or amend the on-line article."

They have now amended the article and are quoting
"A spokesman for road safety charity Brake, said: "Under no circumstances
should a child be riding one of these vehicles on a road - whether as a
    driver or passenger.
"Even with permission to use the machines on private land, children
shouldn't be put in control of them - the sheer power and speed of them is
dangerous wherever they are used." "

which is, of course, their opinion not the law.

  5. Well, the first half is certainly the law.

    The second half is bollocks.

  7. Her Dad's fault. No argument. Maybe not for the collision, but
*definitely* for her being there in the first place.

  8. Difficult to resist requests from daughters is my general experience[1].
His abilities at basic child protection in potentially hazardous
situations may well be brought into question though. Especially
considering the resale value of a good one.

[1] I have nearly 55 daughter years under me belt I just worked out.

Quite. The BBC news has just said that she and her brother were both
on quad bikes following their father in his car along a country lane.

Given that kids well under 13 ride MX bikes and quads at MX tracks,
    I'd agree.

Of course it was his bloody fault. He put her in a position where
that accident could happen. He shouldn't have put her in that
    position.

I'm all for letting kids do risky things, but that was bloody stupid.

I actually feel sorry for the woman driving the other Rangie. Pissed
or not, she's also been put in a position by that father's crap
parenting that she shouldn't have been in.

62 here, and 57 son years. I see a faint pattern emerging, but then

  17. If it was a two-lane road, he was a lame-brained ****, but afaics, it
was only a single-track road and he probably thought the risk was
acceptable. Which leaves me wondering just how fast the woman in the
Rangey was going, and how the **** she didn't see kids on quads.

She didn't see them because they were behind another Range Rover with
    its headlights on.
