I don't have mirrors on the Guzzi so rely on the looking over my shoulder
    a little more than most.

As Champ says, the two areas I've had any real problems have been
changing lanes and pulling out to overtake. Which if you think about it,
    are much the same manoeuvre.

Although I still check before turning right in case some
herbert/scooter/whatever has chosen that moment to overtake me.

I can do both of those.
    Either is fine with me!

Borrow one of mine. They're all running and legal (he says, with enormous
    pride).
    Hmm. I feel strangely uneasy.

  8. That guy whose wife you were with last night?

Actually, all I see is a corner of the helmet and a rucked up jacket
    shoulder.

I would but I'm not really happy with the risk on binning it.

Thanks anyway, but I want my first ride to be on something special :)

I find that it's often useful on busy motorways since I commute the
same route often and don't tend to ride it particularly swiftly.

Not if you're a wobbly nobber that's being overtaken by other bikes
    since your holding everyone up...

Does anybody know where I can get guitar lessons cheap?

grey areas and all that shite.

You and I know full well what we are doing if we were to describe it as
"a casual glance to check assumptions". Every now and then even we are
glad we did, not too often mind but often enough that we keep on our
toes for the next hundred yards or so.

Years and kin years of experience. A million miles on two wheels and
only half that number on one. The newbies don't have that luxury, they
simply don't know where it is sage to drop some rules and downright
lunacy to drop others. Until they work it out for themselves they
*must* be taught to do it by rote.

    It wouldn't be called a /lifesaver/ if it wasn't.

and as a corollary, the biggest problem I have with other two-wheeled
vehicles, is them pulling out to overtake a car, without realising
that something faster than, but initially behind them might be already
    doing that.

So true. This'll probably be more 'interesting' than 'special'.
