lifesaver half an hour ago then you can concentrate on what comes next.

I don't ride as fast as you so would also include ordinary dual
    carriageway A roads.

In urban traffic it is very much a case of doing my best to be more
aware than the most aware thing that ever lived since being aware was
    even aware of being invented.

Unless it's a bike, filtering quickly down a wide road - not unknown is it?

Your description of the situation is accurate..... let me think about this.

Right, In heavy traffice (cars stationary behind and in front) what I am
looking for in this situation is either a bike filtering down the outside
and not realising that I am turning right or a emergency services vehicle
    whizzing down the outside.

Or, in lighter traffic a car approching as a gap appears and turning right
with me but the car cuts the corner, particularly on a right turn that is on
    a left hand bend.

The only reason I ask this is because in the 26 years I have been driving I
always check the blind spot on these manouvers (as well as others)

    Neither do I (have the confidence) Note my use of the word 'should :}
I'm not going to judge other's ability quite that roundly, but I can
imagine that is true for many.......

I agree, but I've got it wrong before. I've not been riding for 2 years
    yet, though.

This is one of my personal warning signs. If I'm not happy taking my eyes
off what's in front, I'm going too fast / making some other error.

  10. But Champ, dear chap, you are forgetting that you typically travel at
100mph when popping down to the shops and on average 150mph everywhere
else and other mere mortals do not. Therefore it is entirely instinctive
for you to have only milliseconds of involvement with other traffic
while the rest of us slow mortals have to contend with the tedious
reality of morons travelling at 30 mph in town traffic.

I do take your point though. However your skill and experience set is
way beyond that of a newbie rider and it could be fatal for him to
follow your example when said skill and experience is missing.

Well, yes, there are people who ride very well and never make any checks,
but I think it's tempting fate to be that cocky at the very least.

Look Champ, I'm _really_ sick of this!

For months now it just hasn't been worth the effort of me posting because
you keep saying things that I entirely agree with.

So, the only choices open to me are either to follow you around like some
sycophantic worm posting <AOL> after each of your messages or for me to
become some kind of radical neo-Nazi with deep Christian beliefs who doesn't
    like motorbikes.

So, as the lord is my witness, I swear that only niggers and jews should
ride motorbikes, because they are degenerate scum and we car drivers should
be able to spot them and exterminate them on sight, to safe-guard the future
    of the white race.

Hyperbole! - you mean it isn't true? I'm dismayed.

I'd imagine you just rode like a complete **** as a dispatch rider so I
can imagine that you didn't have many issues at all when it came to
    riding a bike.
Well yes but how many newbies have your appreciation and understanding
and application of the terms "correct road positioning" and "traffic
    awareness"?

I agree with you - I just think a newbie rider wouldn't recognise those
terms if they fell on his head.
