The last and (IMHO) best of the GPZ900s: no bloody silly anti-dive,
17" front wheel, uprated brakes, all engine mods done.

Offered him a grand after I was outbid and it failed to make reserve:
    agreed on £1100.

IMHO, that is a *hell* of a lot of bike for £1100, and unlikely to
    depreciate.

Ooh, I used to have one of them, in that colour too. Lovely, it was.
    You are not wrong.

    **** me, that's nice.

Always wanted one - even to the point of possibly chopping in the VFR in
favour of one - but I've not ridden a late one, so don't really know if
    I'd get on with it.....

CIHAGM, if I end up back down your way?

BTW, when I had mine, I found these chaps:

    http://www.gpz900r.co.uk/gpzzone/home.html

jolly helpful. The bloke who runs it really knows his onions.

Forgive my ignorance-- does that bike still have essentially the same
engine as the original ZX900-A1[1] with the forker rocker arms, like
my ZG1000? It looks very tidy for that price. There's been a couple
of old ZX900s listed locally for about half that price that I've been
tempted to pick up for a lark.

[1] We only got the ZX900-A1 thru A3 (84-86) in the USA.

Um, well, there's my Ducati.... But this will be the fastest bike I've
ever owned, I think. t the fastest I've ridden, of course.

Yuo, post-1990 they upped the rear wheel to a 150/70-18. Front is a
    120/70-17.

It's exactly the same lump, yes, but with various cooling and camchain
mods done. And power was down fractionally to 112bhp, I think. In the
UK, the 900R ran for years. It outlived the GPZ1000R *and* the ZX10
that followed it, which is no mean achievement.

It's utter classic now, and I've been watching a few on Fleabay
because I believe that prices are going to rise in the next few years,
especially as the cull of doggy ones continues.

I'm always (shouldn't be by now) surprised when I see this sort of life
extension thing going on in different markets. Also noteable to me was
the early retirement of the ZG1000 (GTR1000) on your side of the pond.
Make sure you use high-spec oil with lots of ZDDP as the cam lobe loading
is extremely high on that engine, what with each lobe actuating two valve
springs plus the forked rockers multiplying the force.

It's something of a shock, buying a modern bike, for once.

The GTR1000 stayed in Kawasaki's line up at least until the end of the
1990s. I can't remember when they deleted it, but it wasn't long ago.
It's just that nobody bought it.

    Thanks for the tip.

ISTR the GTR1000 surviving through 1994 or so. The ZG1000 hung on here
through the 2006 model year. Evidenkly us Merkins like lardy old sport
tourers... with much cheapness, at $8299 MSRP, actual sale prices were
commonly about a grand less. A 21 year run with almost no major changes
shows what a basically decent design it was.

**** nose, it's hard to say - they either have *it* or they don't! It's not
a size/speed/age/colour thing or it's possibly all of those - for instance,
in a *proper bike bake-off* the Guzzi mentioned earlier is a more 'proper'
bike than the GPZ900 and they are both perhaps more 'proper' bikes than my
    own '14' (which I wouldn't swap, incidentally!) ???

Even the little FB mentioned earlier is a 'proper bike' in my book - all I
can say is there's a lot of models in Kawasaki's current range I don't
consider proper bikes compared to GPZ900, but having said that I don't hate
any bike that starts, goes and stops roughly when it should, as I recently
    said somewhere !!

Yeah nice. I was tempted by that one myself. The grey paintwork looks
    understatedly classy.
